Star, planets, and Ships

First, Id like to say that I think this is going in the right direction.  Its amazing to see how this is changing.  Im a fanboy, so no reason to keep gushing on about you guys so ill get down to what this is really about...

Stars, planets, and Ships.

I like to play with lots of stars in my game and while I know I dont expect every star to have 9 planets, SOME planets would be nice.  I have chosen abundant for everything, and still dont see dead planets, habitable planets, or even extreme planets.  Its just a galaxy full of stars, asteroids, and the occasional space herpes pod...I see where in the galaxy xml you can make numerical changes to get more and I have tried this, but it does not work or happen.  I fly around and find nothing and I think this should be tweaked.  Obviously, you guys/gals have tons on your plate, but you know this xml better than anyone and a quick fix could put some stuff in so I can colonize it.  Or maybe its just mine that is broken...I dunno.  Whatever the reason its just not good.

Second ships.

Love designing and love the fact that you guys have the Creator put out new ones...but there needs to be a switch or check box to turn it off!!  Its crazy!!!  Its like it is constantly upgrading and putting out new ships and then all im doing is spending time going back in and using the obsolete button to get rid of them.  Like a said...a box that turns this off would be great, because after awhile I have more than enough ship designs Im making, plus others are giving me, that I dont need it making more.  Dont get me wrong, I like that it does this and wouldnt mind if it did it once every time a new hull design is researched, but mine go bonkers anytime I get anything new...anything...at all...a new engine..boom...a upgrade to life support..boom...new wps that im not even using, but decided to research it anyway...boom.  And the deleting goes on and on and on.

Again, dont take these at gripes or me being pissed...im not.  Just my few thoughts on a few things just in case no one else had mentioned anything about them.

ps  Dont forget to let custom races be able to pick custom ships somehow.  Was wanting to use Rand Johnson's awesome ST ships and cant unless i play first as Terrans, save each design that way as a template and then load them in...while I dont mind doing that, not sure thats the way you want to do when the game is ready to ship!

Again thanks!!

There was a bug reported in another thread that showed that with respect to habitable worlds, at least, abundant actually produced fewer than common (someone looked at the XML and found the problem).  So while you're waiting for a fix, you could try common everything instead of abundant.

Feedback is always appreciated! Thanks for your post. :)

Ok thanks Publius!  Ill check that and also see what numbers they are using in the XML!  And you are welcome Island Dog...hate even mentioning anything at times, but for me this was getting to the point of frustrating and I know you guys like feedback!

Great that works!  I now have so many more planets then before!!  Dead, habitable, and extreme...so that makes me happy!  Wonder what it is about Abundant that doesnt work...

and I was curious why so many stars with no planets at all.. >_>

Ya it was crazy...all those stars...not a single planet at all.  I mean nada...i dont care if they are dead, low habitation or extreme, but there should be something!!  On common you get that...not sure why it doesnt work on the higher setting, but I hope it something they can fix.  As for now, the Common setting does work and i use it on planets, and artifacts, which were also missing for me.

Here's the post Publius of NV is referencing.  If you want to tinker with the XML file you can fix the Abundant setting right now.  I like my Universes huge with tons of stars & planets & the game really rocks when the file is fixed.  Just always remember to save the original file with a new name (like xxxx_copy.xml) before tinkering with any files so that you can reset to original content if you mess up.  XML is really easy to work with & they do want us to use it to mod (after release for sharing anyhow) so you really aren't doing anything that will mess up the game.

Thanks so much for this.  Will make the changes!!

I have already checked the Abundant setting all is what it should be. Bigger numbers than Common so the mistake has to be somewhere else.

The other thread (cited above by scifi1950) explains:

The PlanetFrequencyExp value goes from 10(none), to 5(rare), to 2.5(uncommon), to 1.25(occasional), to 1(common), and to 1.5(abundant).

So the numbers go down as the planets become more frequent.

Ya doing that it works!!  I have planets!!

Same here! Set planets from 1.5 to 0.5 and it works.

No orphan stars anymore..

Amazing the difference it makes...I also have a star with 4 planets(2 dead 2 lvl 8s) and 2 of the Promotheian planet/mineral as well around the same star...was like whoa.  Then a Black hole is nearby, and I play with those on rare, so for me it was like wow...what an amazing sight!!  Also, has anyone ever zoomed in on a black hole...lol it sounds like the scream of the damned in hell...try it...I was like WTF!!??  Hahaha.
