Earth's custom map needs a little work.

So i'm playing terrans on a whim, of course you made a custom map for earth.

But the placement of tiles on it doesn't really make sense. Europe and all of south america was unuseable.

I think earth needs a more static layout of tiles. Most notably, specific areas should be unuseable but terraformable, including:

Canada

Northern Russia/siberia

All of africa

The middle easy

Australia.

since those places have vast amounts of desert or frozen tundra.

Whose to say Europe wasn't wiped out in a nuclear war? Anyway more tiles become available as the game progresses. But this is a good idea.

ha, maybe.

but it still doesn't make sense that i can build farmland in canada, which is mostly icy wasteland. or three whole hexagons in africa

The map tiles are randomly generated when you start a game, that's why you get odd combinations such as those. Having them be static would mean taking away from work done elsewhere, assuming it is even possible to have a static layout, which may very well be impossible.

That many centuries from now, the technologies we are implicitly assuming, the commercial, industrial, and political changes.  All these provide enough leverage for a clever imagination to put farms wherever they need to be.  Even a not so clever imagination like mine.

why not ? Saskatchewan produces 10% of the worlds exported wheat. how does it not make sense to build farmland in canada?

Global warming is real! But seriously it is random and we are all supposed to take some imaginative liberties about how the planets climate changes along with tech that could change how we use lands. Static tiles would make me sad. I don't enjoy being sad so lets not do that. This is a game where we can plant farms on mars and other planets I would find it much more challenging to grow food on then Canada.

On an unrelated note. I just ran out of girl scout thin mints. It's time to destroy a planet in protest of them only being sold once a year!
