Menu is transparent

Hello!

I have an issue with my Galciv, and have had it for a long time now (which actually prevented me from really participating in this beta, though I could play around with ship designer a bit...).

All my menus are transparent! From the very beginning, every button and every menu has absolutely no texture behind it. I only see the text of all the menus and buttons, nothing else.

How can I fix this?

Oh, and yes, I have played around with all the graphics settings (as far as I could see them!).

Have you checked that your graphics card drivers are up to date, as described in this post?

Yes, I have just updated my NVidia drivers!

Hello Misjbar,

I see you've already placed a ticket for this issue, thank you for doing that! :D

Please take a look at the recommendations in the general troubleshooting guide and if they do not help with your issue, I've requested some extra data in the ticket. Please provide that in your response, as that will help for finding a fix.

Thanks!

I've added it to the ticket!

The recommendations in the general troubleshooting guide didn't help out so far. Updated graphic drivers, dabbled in the settings (whichever I could really change since I cannot really see anything).

Hello Team,

I'm having the same problem as Misjbar.

I already checked divers and general FAQ, nothing helped.

But I noticed one thing, when I launch a game and validate it afterwards, I alwas have a file corrupted after running a game (validation is OK if I run it second time before starting the game). It re-downloads about 650kB.

My DxDiag: http://pastebin.com/hj91YZ4a

I also made a short video with the bug (ignore flickering, it was only in video):

If you need any other information please let me know.

Could you try disabling Gel UI to see if that resolves the issue for you. To be able to toggle that option you will need to have your performance presets set to "Custom".

I tried it just now, no change ... at least I hope I changed it as I cannot see the cross next to the text, but there was a click at least. And Yes, I restarted the game.

I hope devs will look at this soon, as this is pretty game-breaking bug.

BTW, kin3tix mentioned it was reported to bug tracker, could someone provide me a link to that? I'd like to track that in addition to this post.

can you post your debug.err? I'll check it out.

You are getting this error in your debug.err:

OpenDirectory FAILED for directory: S:\Steam\steamapps\common\Galactic Civilizations III\Screens\Schema

Could you check and make sure that directory exists, that you have permissions to write to it and you aren't out of space on that drive. If those are all good could you please verify your steam install.

The folder was missing (there was same error on my notebook where is everything working fine) I created it and now the error is gone with no change in bug.

To validating files - on every launch files Core.bin and GC3.bin (from \Galactic Civilizations III\data\) are getting corrupted (or just changed) and are re-downloaded when validating files. But again, same thing is happening on my notebook and there is no problem with the UI, so I'm pretty much clueless. (I also tried to keep files in same shape as when they were downloaded after validation by keeping them read only, with no effect).

Is there anything I could run while starting the game to give you more diagnostic info?

BTW here is fresher debug.err - http://pastebin.com/TtMMez8W

Try deleting  S:\Steam\steamapps\common\Galactic Civilizations III\Screens\Screens.bin

Shoot, re-verify your steam files and you will get set back to the old way (and im sure without a visible UI).

I'm going to support to pull your info so I can look at your system config. I will let you know what I find.

Hi,

I already re-verified my files, with no change (not that I expected it  ).

Thank You very much for looking into it, let me know if you need more information. If needed I can give you my TeamViewer ID and Pass so you can make further investigation.

Hey guys,

just bought the game and having the same issue with the same error in the debug.err. Any solutions for this yet?

Hey,

same problem here. ticket-ID: JWQ-140-17501

Tried everything, Screens/Schema folder was non-existent in my installation, too. It would be nice to get the missing files for direct download. Just tiny parts of the game missing, but still, this makes it near unplayable.

Yeah, I filed a ticket as well and the process is still on-going. I looked through the files a bit and the files required are there. I think maybe they are just not defined or defined wrong in the XML files? But this is just a theory.

I asked guys on twitter support few days ago and yesterday on twitch chat while they were streaming.

They said both times they are working on the issue but I have no idea how far in solving this are they ... I hope they were at least able to replicate our problem.

BTW: can somebody please link me to related ticket if possible? Thank You

HI I have the same issue.

Tried all the stuff above and even what crashwiki says about debugging the game on the transparent menu.

No effect. Can we expect a refund if it is not solved ?

I can confirm, this worked for me.

Go to your "User Account Settings" (type "User Accounts" into start) and create new user with administrative rights. Also create password for this new account (I called mine GalCiv). Click on start, on arrow next to "Shut down" and click "Switch user". Log into this new account. Now you need to find GalCiv.exe, it will most probably be in "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Galactic Civilizations III\GalCiv3.exe" run it, wait for game to load menu ... now you should see menu as it should be (if not restart PC and try running the game from new account again).

Afterwards log out of this account and log in back to your normal account. Now find the GalCiv.exe file again and create shortcut on desktop (delete steam created shortcut from desktop). Now right click on your newly created shortcut and click properties. Now we need to make this shortcut use the newly created account to run the game.

Paste this into target field in front of current text:

  • C:\Windows\System32\runas.exe /user:GalCiv /savecred

(GalCiv is the name of newly created account, yours can be named differently, use name of your new account)

so the target field looks something like this:

  • C:\Windows\System32\runas.exe /user:GalCiv /savecred "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Galactic Civilizations III\GalCiv3.exe"

click on OK (icon will change to generic one, you can change it back to galciv's icon by clicking on change icon in properties) and doubleclick on this new shortcut, DOS window will open asking you for password of newly created account (you need to type it only once)

And now, enjoy the game :)

I hope this will help someone :P

BIG FAT WARNING: If you restart/turn off your PC, you will need to log into new account and run GalCiv once to have menus ok in normal account.

People with this issue don't have the rights required to create the screen atlas. You can create a user with right to the game directory, give your user more rights, or this issue will be fixed with 1.02.
