QoL improvement suggestions

post your own

I just played a few turns with the new beta and wrote things down that came to my mind while playing:

1)

When i double click a tech in tech tree, the game should chose that tech and close research screen. currently double clicking does nothing over single click.

2)

When i double click on a planet it opens the planet screen. a single click does nothing. it seems that either a single click option is missing or you have to click too often.

3)

I would like an option to choose different galaxy map backgrounds (are there different ones?) the current one i play on is too busy imho.

4)

In the main screen, the empire management list (planets/ships/...) it would be nice to have different sorting options, for example sort planets by name, size, production, research and most importantly planet govern setting. sort ships by position (in enemy, friendly or neutral territory / out of date / type) and so on

5)

The mouse cursor should change on ai turn. i like to know when i am not in control. currently the only indicator is in the bottom right (end turn button)

6)

An option to set the tech tree as the default tech screen. i don't like the current tech screen and always go the tech tree. this options would safe a lot of clicks

7)

This is a bit of a larger request: An fleet management system, i.e. set up fleet templates (e.g. 5 fighters + 2 capital ships) and give shipyards the option to construct fleets (i.e. the shipyard will construct a fleet according to the template and send them to the way point where the ships wait and merge when the fleet is completed and only when it is completed you will get the idle ship notification) as well as to update fleets (for example if you get the capacity to add more ships to a fleet you update you fleet template and give shipyards the order to update your fleets, e.g. the produce the missing ships and send them to the existing fleets)

If you have your own suggestions feel free to add them

Great feedback! Thanks!

I would like to have an option to scroll through the shipyards like you can with the planets. Should be a simple thing, I guess :)

Good stuff, much of this we already have plans to address.

Changing the star box is a cool idea but it might have to wait for a patch, but i like it.

The reason we have you double click on planets, starbases, shipyards etc. is because they all have Context windows that come up on single click, this is so you can quickly give simple commands, without exiting the main map.

Thanks for the feedback.

more suggestions after toying around with 6.1:

i would propose something like this:

8) planets, shipyards and starbases

  • single click: the popup stays
  • right click or left click outside of popup: the popup vanishes
  • all functionality and garrison information is included in the popup
  • the bottom left panel can be removed since all functionality and information is in the popup
  • simply hovering over the planet (without clicking) would close the popup as soon as i move the mouse cursor away (current behavior)

this would save a lot of mouse movement, because the popup is next to planet/shipyard, i.e. next to the current position of the mouse cursor. this would mean you could save the green distance with your mouse.

9) add the shipyard queues to the quick build functionality:

again this would save a lot of mouse movement and clicks.

THIS!

I would also like an option to build a shipyard before 75 turns... :Þ

Yes, yes and yes. Great idea for UI improvement! It would be far easier on the mouse and the eyes with this layout style, especially once your empire have grown massive and you want rapid snips of information and management decisions for your tens and tens of worlds. It'd also make constructor spam a bit less tedious as a side effect.

(PS: I made my first comment just to support this proposal, that's how much I like it.)

EDIT: Grammar

glad you like it :)

next issue

10) when double clicking on a ship in the shipyard queue, the ship should be canceled from the queue.

11) when i click on pass (idle ship), the game should cycle to the next idle ships (currently this works only with the shortcut: space). this would make it very fast cycling though your idle fleets (e.g. when i assemble fleets next to shipyards)

12) idle shipyards should zoom and select the shipyard, not open the shipyard menu. it is really a hassle when it opens the shipyard menu, because i have to find the location of the shipyard, so i know what i should build.

13) right click on a ship in a garrison (planet, shipyard or starbase) should eject it.
