Question about Founders and Steam...likely been answered a lot...

So the story goes like this... I am an Elite Founder. I am a happy one. No issues with Stardock or Steam (so far). I have never had issues.

My best friend of nearly 32 years had several very bad problems with steam early on. He absolutely will not purchase the game because it requires steam. I have told him those issues are long gone. I even rebuilt his computer from the ground up, its FAR better than mine and he still will not get GC III.  He is a very avid fan of the GC franchise. He knows I have spent many many hours in Alpha and Beta and sees what a great game 'we' are developing. Alas I cannot get him to budge on the Steam issue.  He states that he got a base game via steam no problem but then also purchased expacs and steam took his money but never downloaded the expansions. When he tried to contact steam he met a brick wall. I feel the same way. If there was just a teensie bit of customer service on their end all of this would be resolved.

I quote  him, " If it was available on disc I would pay 100.00 in no time flat, but I absolutely hate steam"... "Ok Greg, no problem",  I tell him.....

Anyhow it got me to thinking.

Currently Steam thinks I 'own' the beta. How will it know that I purchased the Gold?

How will it know that I am one of those folks who are eligible for DLC and expansions without having to 'rebuy' them via steam?

I know Stardock knows who we are but how will that information be conveyed to Steam?

This should be answered by Stardock. But I see two methods, one our keys are on the SD website and we enter them on Steam, or method two Steam can tell the Elite edition apart from the rest, when I look at my transactions I see Galactic Civilizations® III - Founder's Elite Edition.

Have you told your friend that he can purchase directly from Stardock and just enter the codes on Steam?

The only problem I had with Steam is when I bought some DLC for Saint's Row 3 and got charged the wrong amount, contacted support and I got a refund.

Not to go into technical details, but basically a Founder's Edition was a specific product that is listed differently than say just the base game. The Steam store knows that that edition gets all the "goodies."

DLC's for most games sit under the game itself and now display on the games Library page in full view.
