Unable To Launch The Game (error 0xc000007b)

Hello everyone,it seems i've run iinto a rather serious issue here. I've bought the game yesterday on Steam,downloaded it and when i tried to start it up,it just loads for a second and then nothing else happens. This haoppens when starting from the automatically created desktop shortcut as well as clicking on play in Steam directly.

When trying to launch from the .exe directly,it give me following error: The application failed to start correctly (0xc000007b).

After some searching,i found that VCC Redistributable might be the cause of it,so i reainstalled/repaired all latest versions of it,but alas that did not work either. starting the game as administator yielded no positive results either.

I have several other games installed too and every single one of them, even DA:Inquisition wich is known for its frequent crashes and freezes runs without any trouble at all.

Galciv3 is the only game i can't even get to run and aforementioned error message does not really say much at all. I hope someone here can help me fix this.

I would suggest creating a ticket with Stardock so they know about the problem and can see if it is something unique to your configuration or not. How to create a ticket, as well as how to create the diagonstic logs that will help SD see what is going on, is at the bottom of the link that Bamdorf provided.

It's also possible that your download got corrupted at some point while installing. Bamdorf has also provided a handy list of things to try out if things are getting borked here: What I do in Case of Trouble - My List

I took a look at the list,but alas that didn't help me either. Ticket is send,let's see what that'll do. Redownloading the game,even trying it on various partitions,including the Windows partition,did not work either.

I really hope that either the ticket will help or that a future patch might fix the problem. But for the time being,i'm stuck with a game i can't play,wich is rather frustrating.

I am not having quite that problem. Mine hangs at "This is a beta...." screen after the intro movie. Have read other FAQ and such. Updated, checked again. Uninstalled. Reinstalled. Still the same. Steam says over 100 minutes "played" which is when I let it sit and think about running. Steam won't let me opt in on beta updates as FAQ says it will. Dropped in 8 gig stick for Ready Boost. No change. Yes it is a x64 Win 8.1. Only way to get out of it is with Task Manager. Time to send a ticket I know. Just throwing it out there because mine issue is slightly different.

Just so you know, that's only accurate when there are opt-in patches avaialble (which only happens occasionally). Right now, all that is available is the .72 version of the beta which should have installed when you downloaded the game.

The game will auto update whenever there is a new public beta available, FWIW.

I am working my way through Bamdorf's list now. As he said he is writing for a Win 7 platform but still great stuff. Looking at his profile shows other good looking posts. Changing the file name to .old is no joy for me. Tried changing my display from extended to clone. No joy. Did find out the minimum resolution is 1280 x 768 but again no joy.

Hi,

I'm having the exact same issue. Very frustrating to buy a game and then not be able to play it!!

I've tried the same thing as you, redownload etc. Nothing helps. My computer meets all the requirements of the game. This is a really bad bug!

Please someone fix it!

Good to know i'm not the only one who can't get it to run. Just like you,my PC meets all the requirements to play the game and yet,it does not launch. Of all the games i have currently installed,it's the only one i can't play.

Thanks BuckGodot. BUTwhen I went to check on my Steam cloud settings as Bamdorf suggested at the bottom of the first screen is Beta Participation which said I was opted out and one was available. Changed the setting to accept. Restart now. On restart it downloaded and installed 51 mb. Did not say what it was updating. I had already verified, reinstalled and verified again before this. Still no joy. Also, the cloud settings were already checked.

Having this same problem

The error I get when I try to launch from the exe is "The Program can't start because d3dx10_43.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem"

I too am having this same problem!

I bought it in the 50% sale and after downloading, I started GC3 up and it worked fine. Started a new game on a Tiny map just to get the feel of it. Played no problem for 45 mins but had to go to bed. Got up this morning wanting to finish that game and it just freezes at the planet stage after the cinematic.

I usually avoid Beta's for this very reason....I am sure it will be sorted out somewhere down the line but frustrating not even to get to the game itself!

Problem Solved (at least for me)

I fiddled about a bit and realised the game had not frozen at all. But the menu and options are off screen because of the screen resolution. I changed my screen resolution to 1280x768 (which is the officially recommended minimum, although lower resolutions seem to work but may be quirky) and your menu options reappear and you can play GC3 fine. You do not need to boot GC3 up via steam to change your resolution, just do it at your desktop screen via the control panel display options. You can then sync GC3 resolution with your desktop resolution.

Hope this helps other players out who have the same issue.

Thanks meglobob1. Your post got me back to my "locked" screen again and found a button I had been staring at. Some alcohol may have been envolved. On the "Thanks for participating..." screen, the box at the end that says "Work in progress, got it..." is the button I needed. Left click and play away.

ALSO: I run on a laptop with a separate monitor. Turning off the display on the laptop really helped with game play. Right click on the desktop> Graphic Options (or similar)> Output To (or something like)> Digital (only). That is how a built in Intel display driver menu looks but all will have the same options. Your laptop screen will be black. Remember to change it back before you unplug the separate monitor.

Alright,beta 6.1 is out and i'm STILL UNABLE to play this game. STILL getting the same error message,STILL no fix for it in sight. I'm sick and tired of having a game sit there and being unable to play it I'm rather confident that even when it hits gold and is released,i'll still won't be able to do anything with it except staring at it in the steam library.

I guess i'll have to go back to galciv 2 and play that instead.

I have no such report due to being completely unable to launch the game. As i understand it,this report is created when the game crashes after it has loaded. But in may case,i never even get to the loading screen. Just throws the 0xc000007b error in my face every single time i try to launch the exe.

It would still have a debug.err.

check in documents/my games/galciv3. Could be as simple as a font issue.

I'll check as soon as the game has been re-downloaded. I thought i should give that a try too,but like a few months back,i'm not very optimistic that it'll fix my problem.

As soon as it's done,i'll post the debug.err. Can i open that file with a simple text editor or should i upload it somewhere?

Ok,game has finished downloading,still the same issue when trying to launche it. Even bigger problem is,i can't give you the debug.err because no folder is being created at the location you've specified.

This issue might be related in that the game on my laptop tries to run but I get a list of errors generated from an xml file basically stating that it can find certain files. But I don't get error code that Shroomworks has. I still have an open ticket on this issue by the way, and I would suspect as well that there is something wrong with the installer.

Ok,it might be that the error is caused by a broken windows file or installation or whaterver (read a ton about that error on the web). Anyway,i've reinstalled windows 7,set everything up and i'm redownloading the game right now. I just hope this works.
