Text not appearing on UI buttons

Hello,

I know this problem has been floating around for a while, so please bare with me while I, as a proud new owner of GC3, have fallen victim to it. I purchased and install Gal Civ 3 yesterday and after I installed it, the game loaded fine. However once it loaded I saw that the text on the buttons in the UI are missing. I spent around 6 hours researching and attempting the fix this issues last night, doing the following:

- Updated my GPU driver (I updated my drivers last night to the latest non-beta driver directly from AMD's site to driver: 14.501.1003.0 dated 11/20/14.)
- Reinstalled GC3
- Attempted to "OPT IN" to the beta (which steam will not allow me to do) but I read that this issue had been patched and should be fixed if you opt'd in the newest beta, but they did not say which version of the beta this was (the post was from Feb 15 I believe), which again I cannot do. The version of the game I am running is 0.72.
- I Have spent hours reading the forums and internet attempting to find a solution or work around.

I have not been able to resolve this issue. Obviously the game is fairly unplayable, which is fairly disappointing.

Thank you,

Badge324

There is a GalCiv III Support FAQ here in the forums, and you can use the info there to submit your issue.  I have seen text not fitting in the UI boxes, but not heard of no text at all.  You may have found a new bug.  Congratulations!  If so, they will need your support files to find it.

I already read that FAQ page through and submitted a ticket. I have run the stardock utility. I am awaiting a reply from the support team. I thought I would be proactive while I waited and post my issue in case anyone had a similar issue and solution and could help me out with a work around/solution.

Hopefully someone on here has been through this and can offer a suggestion or the support team gets back to me as I am excited to be able to play this!

Thank you for trying to be helpful though, erischild!

Great!  Gotta keep those tickets flowing or the devs will get all lazy and everything.

For those of you that might run into this problem, I received a reply from Stardock and the solution worked.

I Copied it below so hopefully it helps someone in the future:

Hello,

If you're missing fonts or not seeing them show properly, please try the following instructions below after exiting GalCiv3.

-Navigate to this directory: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Galactic Civilizations III\Fonts
-Run this EXE: gc3_font_setup.exe
-Start up GalCiv3 and see if the fonts show up properly.

If you are still not seeing the fonts, try deleting a few files listed below in this directory: C:\ProgramData\Stardock\Galactic Civilizations III

K2FontData_Small.fontdata
K2FontTexture_Small.dds

Afterwards try verifying the game's cache files. Open up Steam and right click on the game and select properties, then choose the option 'Verify Integrity of Game Cache' like so: http://screencast.com/t/QwZ9xVyT

After the game files are read/repaired attempt to run the game again in Steam and see if that fixes the issue.

If this did not work for you, please try downloading and installing the font at this website:

http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=17879

Please let me know if this works for you in your reply,

K2FontData_Small.fontdata
K2FontTexture_Small.dds

Are not being created on my machine.  It could be because I've installed steam on a seperate drive and certainly not in the program files directory.  Can it be that the fonts installation program is hardcoded to the windows program files x86 directory ?  Or maybe a 64 bit oversight where it forces for the program files dir ?  These seem to be the most obvious mistakes I can think of.

Bottom line the font files are not being created in the directory.  Tried following solutions

- Run the fonts install program as regular user

- Run the fonts install program as administrator user

- force the fonts install program in the program files 86\Steam\steamapps\common\Galacitc Civilizations III\Fonts dir and ran it there as administrator/regular user

- cleaned up the root dir of galactic civilizations III folder and verified the files of the steam cache

- updated my video drivers to the latest version (GTX 660 TI card)

None of these worked, maybe offer the font files in a zip file , until you get the installer work correctly ?

Sincerely

Celludriel

I found the font files eventually in

C:\ProgramData\Stardock\Galactic Civilizations III

However my game is installed in

D:\Games\Steam\steamapps\common\Galactic Civilizations III

I moved the font files in the game root but this did not fix the issue

End of celludriel's quote

The font files are supposed to be in C:\ProgramData\Stardock\Galactic Civilizations III.     Try deleting them from there and restarting Steam and the game.

Great that did it I must have had some kind of older version of the fonts in that directory.

I have tried everything here that I can, unfortunately there are connectivity issues where I am... Can someone -please- put those two new, working font files on a .RAR file, I've searched my game directory and found these files but dare not delete them if I cannot get replacements in a timely fashion. I'm desperate here guys, I could wait a little while to get my connection back properly but that would take too much time. Please, please -PLEASE- put those in a .RAR file for me. It would make me a very, very happy man.

Have you tried verifying your game cache after deleting the 2 files? After doing so, Steam should download them.
