Rally Point Issues

Extra clicks and scrolling get tedious

Hi,

Wondering if anyone has seen these and/or has a comment.  They seem very minor things, but they gets real annoying on big map.

1 I have been noticing for some time that in most cases, not all by any means, that the rally point table has an annoying habit of requiring an extra mouse click or two in order to assign a shipyard to a starbase or a rally point.

To explain this as best possible I use a new Tiny game, playing as Drengin. See screen shots below. From the save game, below, a reproducible example can be seen by ---

Load the save game.
Click on the Drengin shipyard.
Click on Rally Point (lower right of shipyard display)
The table appears (screen shot rally_point_table.png)
One can see in the "all" list that there is a starbase at the bottom of the list.
Now, before ANY MORE mouse clicks, attempt to click the table header "starbases" in the upper right of the table.
----> Nothing happens.
However, if one now clicks the "planets" column heading, one will see a list of planets; and then if followed by clicking "starbases" the list of starbases (only the one shown by "all" in this case) will appear!

Now in this case the problem is moot because I could have just clicked on the starbase in the "all" display. However, after I have 25 starbases and 15 planets, say, it gets to be annoying, it is just extra clicks for nothing. Note that I have seen this (unresponsive rally table headers) for the rally point entry and for the starbase entry, but generally it does not happen on first attempt. Later in the game it appears to happen almost every time.

For example, if I create a new game and immediately create a rally point, then click on my starbase (there will only be one) a click on the rally point button followed by clicking the rally point header in the table will work, but later is the game it generally will not.

Please note: sometimes I will see this issue, save the game, reload the game, and then check with the same order of mouse clicks --- and it works! The save file below seemed to reproduce the issue repeatedly on reloading.

2 (Ease of use suggestion) I have noticed that when I create a starbase or rally point, the new item appears in the rally point table (like the table shown below) at the bottom of its list. The Drengia starbase here that I just created is at the bottom of the list, but this will happen perforce because there is now only one starbase.   This means in any real game, assigning a rally point or starbase as a shipyard rally point will require scrolling down through a list to find the last entry. IF the new item were added at the top of the list, clicking on the slider and scrolling down to find the starbase or rally point would not be necessary. This seems like it might be any easy fix (but what do I know!).

I have also been noticing this problem.

My current game has 110 colonies and 156 starbases, setting rally points is a pain!

I loaded your game and it worked correctly. I loaded an immense game with numerous sb, ship yards, planets, and RPs and it worked correctly. The problem must be unique to just some computers.

I like your suggestion for some kind of sorting option for the table by when the item was built. I agree that that should not be difficult to put in the game. They could add 1 more click to reverse the order from top to bottom to bottom to top.

I expected that it wouldn't be too widespread or it would have been reported (at least a search of these forums would have revealed something).

However, I suspect the problem may be tough to reproduce.     I tried several times after a failure to save and load a game and see the problem.   Only the save game I posted reproduce the effect for me, and three times in a row.   HOWEVER, I just tried loading it again after restarting the game....and it worked fine.

AAAAAARRRRRGGGHHHH.

Combine this with the fact that usually when I freshly load a game or start a new game, it works correctly at least for a while, I suspect that what you are seeing isn't surprizing, and doesn't necessarily mean it is computer specific.

It doesn't seem to depend on the size of the game.   I have seen it in all sizes.    But it does seem to turn up after playing for a while.  I don't think I have played a game that it didn't rear its ugly head, and once it does it seems to be the rule.

BTW. I have upgraded to 16 gB and I have spent a lot of time optimizing Windows for performance.

EDIT:  I took the same game and played three more turns, and the problem arose again.

Kind of like the "go to" function. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, sometimes it works for some ships, and not others.

Sometimes the go to function doesn't appear, etc.  Yeah, that's a good desription.

Note:  My ticket has been processed and they were able to reproduce the rally point issue from my save game!   Oh Well.
