[2 suggestions] extreme planets and race diversification

1)

I think it would be nice to differentiate races by varying their access to extreme planets in their tech trees.

For example Yor could start out being able to colonize barren planets while colonizing aquatic planets would be an endgame tech; whereas for the Torians it would be the other way around. Maybe some races don't have techs for certain planets and they have to trade for the tech or gain it otherwise (espionage or conquering the planets -- if this ever becomes an option).

2)

I think it would also be nice to have a game mechanic that allows to have multiple races within your empire, e.g. through tourism or conquest or other means (refugees) your planets could have mixed populations, say 10% human 80% talan and so on. Your type of empire/ideology would then control how those foreign elements are handled, e.g. if you have a benevolent republic they are just citizens, if you have an evil empire they are cheap labor, but prone to revolts especially they are prone to switch sides via culture flips or fight an the other during invasions. some races could be pure genocidal, e.g. all Yor planets are always 100% Yor. This could add to a lot of depth to the diplomatic and ideology gameplay systems.

1. I think all should be able to research all techs in the end.

2. I'd like that one ! sounds great

Anything that increases the choices in Diplomacy are a good thing! I like both ideas and suspect that when the (Tasty Torians)tm arrive we will see changes to the Extreme planets.

Larsenex I like your idea that different races would have easier/earlier and harder/later access to the techs to colonize different types of world. I think eventually every race should be able to colonize every type of world, at least at the 50% production level.

Disagree.  I knid of like the idea that some species just aren't creative enough to discover certain tech and they have to steal or trade for the tech.

Besides, that wouldn't be consistent with the back story of the game itself and the theory that perhaps some species would never discover certain tech on their own.  In otherwords, despite the drengin being a very advanced civilization while humanity was clubbing tigers with animal skin underwear to get the girl, they never managed to discover hyper drive.  For whatever reason, the dregin mastered the technology of torture but never figured out hyper drive in thousands upon thousands of years.  I dont know if I buy that theory, as it seems to me some gifted dregin would eventually discover hyper drive, but the lore being what it is, different races should have different techs.

Also, another oddity... Aren't races technically variations of the same species?  For example, humans can be of the African American race, Caucasion race, etc.  Instead of racial traits it should be unique species traits.  The different civilizations are entirely different species.  Perhaps only the Korath and the Dregin would use the term different races.

yes but biological definitions never had a place in games (especially fantasy). so yes the different factions should be species, not races.

edit: technically even species would be the wrong term. the problem is that there is no biological term for organisms that don't share any biological ancestry.

The current limit on if a tech is tradable or brokerable is if the other side has one with the same GenericName(I think?).  While UPResolutions.xml has votes that can restrict either for specific classes of tech (something that can be trivially modded in for new categories), I've not been able to find a way to attach these functions to something active without a vote (i.e. tech tree or something) to give more fine grained control over what can be done with techsI'd be pretty surprised if this changed in beta5
