Large maps break the game

I have browsed the forums and have narrowed it down to the "wait hang" bug.  However from playing small to medium sized maps, I have played games up to 800 turns long with no issues at all.  Only when I get to the large map size at about turn 300, I click wait, then the game "freezes".  Well it doesn't actually glitch to a solid freeze.  I can still move around the map, select units to see their stats and such.  But I can only do the things a player can do whilst on the NPC's turn.  The "wait" button never comes back and I am no longer to play the map.  Upon a reload a few turns back everything is normal again and then clicking wait a few times yields the exact same results.  I believe the "wait hang" bug is due to the map size selected, not to any other glitch.  I have tested this several times on large maps and the results are always the same.  However on small to medium sized maps the game works as intended.  Please fix the large map scenario to prevent this from happening.

How much memory do you have and what is your virtual memory set at?

It's a fairly new computer.  1TB hard drive and 16 gb of ram.  Virtual memory.. not sure.  Haven't looked at that.  but with 16 gigs of ram should be able to play the game without issue

You're right, with 16G you should be able to play a large map.  I've got 8G and am currently playing an immense map with no hangs or stutters (so far).

I've been having a consistent CTD occur when playing on Gigantic and Immense maps.  I've sent in quite a few save files to Stardock about the issue. The last I heard from them is that the next patch will hopefully address my (and others) issue regarding this.

We'll find out soon enough, I suppose. :)

And if it doesn't?  Well as Paul Boyer says on almost every devstream it seems (love ya Paul :p), "Welcome to the world of game design". :D

I like to play on the largest maps and so far I run into the wait bug every game between turn 300 and 400.  My machine has 16 GB of RAM and I run process explorer while I play the game.  So far I have never seen usage above 9 GB, the issue isn't a resource one.  So far every time I've encountered the issue everything is stable the game just stops.

Opening a ticket is a very good step to follow. The devs need the information collected by their tool SDSupportTool and any other data you can supply.

Another good step would be to run DxDiag and post the output file on a "dropbox" like facility and share the link to the file here.

Some people have found that even 16GB RAM works only if the size of the swapper (or paging) file is properly set, and the settings show up in the output of DxDiag.

Please try the newly released patch 2. If this does not help your issue, I recommend sending save/dump files to support. For sending save, dump, debug.err files. Would you kindly, submit a ticket via our support system so that I can better assist you with your issue. After following the link, run the support tool, include your steam name, describe the issue you are having and then send us the zip file to greatly speed up the process!
