[0.71]Surround Planet Denying Colony Ship Access Tactic Locks System

Game seems lost trying to resolve issue

At turn 185, I found that when I pressed the "Turn" button, the cooling fans sped up, memory held steady at 8.25 GB of RAM, and the eight CPUs averaged 50% utilization. The AI's turn wouldn't end. This is with an Immense map on Win 7 64.  The CPU usage fluctuated, so it seemed the system was trying to do different things and not just the same thing over and over. On several occasions, I let it run in this state for minutes while I did something else. I tried making various changes to the tactical situation, and finally found the resolution.

In a tactical move to prevent a planet from being colonized before my Colony Ship arrived, I had surrounded a planet with six ships, preventing direct access by anyone else. I also have 100 turns where no one can declare war on me. Another race has a Colony Ship two hexes from the planet. This seems to cause the AI to contemplate its navel. If instead I move one ship away from the planet, then hit the Turn button, the Colony Ship makes like a sperm fertilizing an ovum. It's my turn again in just a fraction of a second. From this I conclude that the system is working hard on a solution to the blockaded planet. The developers may want to look at this particular gambit. I think the AI is going down a rabbit hole.

Since this seems like a definite bug, you might consider moving this thread to the support forum.  Just edit the original post and change the category to "Support".

in the meantime one way to make this tactic work would be to create the ring but leave a gap and when a ship approaches that gap close it up and open a gap on the other side

keep that colony ship going around in circles

if the ship has enough moves to make it around simply make the ring bigger or buy the colony ship from the ai

Seems a perfectly good use of five ships.  All engines, no modules.

Good suggestion, I'll do that. First, I wanted to make sure others had a chance to say, "Oh, just give it 7 minutes, it works it out eventually."

Thanks, Mssrs. Gilmoy and androshalforc, I wish I had thought of that before giving up my 15 Lush.

I posted this exact same scenario a while back and submitted a ticket and it looks like they have identified and fixed the issue with the latest patch haven't tested it out yet but I am optimistic that the issue has been resolved because it seems to be a pretty cut and dry bug.

If it is the same thing as I experienced this is just another flavor of the "wait hang" bug where the game will just sit in between turns with the turn button saying wait.

That never ending turns in between 180-300 Was always getting me and made endgame impossible !
