Defenses need a pass to improve effectiveness

I know this prolly will not happen but I can ask. We need another look at how defenses work or at the very least double if not triple the current value that they give. This would reward designers who research defenses and create more balanced ships and fleets and have the added benefit of having the battles last longer and be a bit more cinematic. We still have the 10x speed if you want to hasten up the movie. 

 

Personally if I know I am going to have a big battle Ill pause and go to free cam and slow it down to 1/2 speed so I can view all the fiery destructive goodness!

Also, in the same vein.. if you increase ship defense values I would also prohibit carrier based fighters from having any defenses. This will still make them very powerful but also allow for some losses in battle, the fighters would focus on those ships and likely have to make multiple firing passes killing the ship but not before it and other ships can reduce or eliminate most of the fighters. 

 

 

On a separate idea, why not use strategic resources for improved defense values. I would GO OUT OF MY WAY to get a (resource) that gave or improved  shields on my ship that reduced beams 25 or 50%!!!  

 

Also what about cross resource defense specializations? Durantium can improve armor but in the 'Shields' line there is a beam augment that uses Durantium to boost shields 100% or whatever..... 

 

 

Just brainstorming is all..

True but as it is now is not worth grabbing. If Defense values were doubled then the fights would last longer and would not be so lopsided in favor or Beams. 

 

So what is the bonus to Shields that Elerium gives me?
