Survey ship award from Anomolies doesnt have Survey Module.

I have a current game where I was awarded a MK 10 or such Survey ship. It has phenomenal visibility but cannot 'survey' anomolies. I raced to pick up Sensors but I am still unable to upgrade it with a module.

I think its due to my not having 'medium' sized hulls. I am working there now. However, if you are awarded a 'survey' ship early on, the devs need to code that it is fully functional regardless of your current tech level.

Then submit a ticket as it describes so we may report it to the devs.

Survey ships are the only class of ships that the AI ship designer will consistently design ships with survey modules in mind. If you want some other kind of ship to be equipped with survey modules, you are going to have to build that design yourself.

Its been asked a few times for the ability for players to design their own class of ships, much like how rangers, troop transports, or survey ships are their own class.  For instance, a survey ship is medium hull with a survey module, with a number of other modules for range and speed (and maybe more sensor range). Right now, we don't have the means to design our own class of ships (short of modding them in).

Yes, you will need to research the techs for medium hulls and survey modules at the very minimum. Without them, the game won't design the survey ship.

Divine,

My issue is not with Design. My issue is I found a 'Survey' Ship via anomalies. It was a medium hull and it had an enormous sensor suite. However it did not come with a Survey Moduel and was unable to survey anomalies.

I can upload a save game.

I'm sorry. Did I misread your post? I've been reading a lot the past few days, so I might be a little tired. I know that I was trying to answer a question for someone just recently, who asked if they needed medium hulls and survey modules to get a survey ship.

Yeah I got that same thing.  Had my survey ship get an anomoly, got a "survey" ship with awesome sensors, but then I discovered that it can't survey anomolies :(

Somebody check the (new Beta 4) mass value of the Survey Module.  I suspect it's huge, and no longer fits at all in a medium hull.

Hence the autodesigner tries to put a survey module in, fails, and then it fills up the empty capacity with Navigational Sensors instead.  Can anybody verify?  (Just select your ship, click Details, list all of the components, and manually add up their masses, cross-checking with your own Designer or XML files as needed to get the raw numbers.)

I believe the issue here is with the auto-designer if you have not researched survey modules yet. In one of my games I found 2 survey ships fairly deep in the game and they worked fine, but in another game I found one very early game and it did not work. I think the problem is being caused by the switch to blueprint-designed ships from a pre-designed list of "lost" ships.

Peregrine, I think you nailed it, in which case this is a bug...??

Yeah, whenever you get a "free ship" of any sort, it is based on your current technology.  It might give you a hull larger than you have researched, but everything else will be limited by what you've unlocked.

It's not so much a bug as an oversight.
