Immense Maps

I made an I map and put all civs I could in it and all is going fine.

It is just that it has been 3 days and still expanding and skirmishes with the VOR.

On another note you may want to add a warning lable for the game that it is adictive and one can loose time or other problems of addicts. Gamblers sue casinos when they loose is what made me think of it.

The Immense Maps.   Oh....My....God.  But wait.

There is the Insane Size coming... gahhhh!!

But seriously, if there is anything you see that looks buggy do a ticket!   Not everybody is going to invest the time to play Immense long enough to spot mid to late game bugs.

If you see me coming on your map, given the size it is not surprising that they might overlap with someone else...

End of Larsenex's quote

Cry 'Havoc!', and let slip the dogs of war!   Oh, no you asked what day it was.   Then I say:

Beware the Ides of March...

I played on Gigantic for over 100 turns and had met all of the other 5 races around turn 110. Then the game started crashing, so I switched back to Huge for a new game. Huge seemed small after playing on Gigantic. Now more crashes. May wait for a patch before I try Immense--I put many hours into exploring the Gigantic map, so I believe Larsenex when he writes about losing time to these super big maps. Great fun if you have the time to spend! Extreme planets really help make the super maps interesting--now we just need more races--a lot more races!

Check how much your memory your page file (virtual memory) is set. I experienced crashes and unable to load Immense maps and crashes on Gigantic till I did the following:

Reinstalled the the 'redistributable' which stardock support told me to fix, here is thier email to me...

The crashing looks to be related to the Visual C++ Runtime library. Please navigate to the following folder: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Galactic Civilizations III\_CommonRedist\vcredist\2012

Run the 'vcredist_x64.exe' file within there to reinstall the redist. Once that has been done, try to play the game again.

Please let me know if this does not resolve the issue.

I also increased my page file to 6 gigs fixed. This immediately solved the 'unable to load' problem.

Both of these 'fixes' will not harm your computer or your game. So its worth a shot to see if they work.

My paging file is off so my 16 ram gets used instead. Maybe that is why I am having no problems.

How does immense maps in GC3 compare to GC2?  It seems like the GC2 maps were bigger.

I think immense in GCiv3 is much larger--or at least it gives the appearance of being so.  Plenty of room to expand, that's for sure.  No real problem loading the map so far (knocking wood).

Charon, the maps are 'substantially' larger. Simply by doing a tile count. Immense I would says is twice if not three times larger than the largest map in GC II.

At this point, I think that there needs to be something that can help make the game more interesting. Perhaps more minor factions trying to expand and that  become as potent as full scale players would help make the game more interesting early game?

Or space pirates or something to fight? Perhaps something special for large maps even?
