Galciv3 looks "childish"

Hi,

I love GC2 - it is one of my favorite games, I can play it when I am in the mood for space game after a hard week at work. In main screen it looks "realistic" - I can zoom in, I can fight tough battles and I can grow and defend my empire. I miss star gates and jumps and I'd like a more modern interface.

I have GC3 for a few weeks now and I am more than disappointed. In my opinion it looks childish. Even one of my sons (10y) says it looks like a game for small boys and prefers GC2.

It uses hex - why? One of the strength of GC2 is the "free space" where a ship can fly everywhere and must be intercepted in free space.

Today I played 0.7 and still all the interfaces are not pretty. I am quite unsure if they will ever become pretty and generate a mood.

Look at Endless space and compare that to GC3.:-( - even if I prefer GC2 - endless game generates "emotions" :-)

GC3 looks for me like Colonisator, which is a really nice board game (http://boardgamegeek.com/image/1444179/colonisator) - but that is not enough for epic space battles when I plan do play that for weeks and need a more realistic approach.

Will there be an update to the UI until release date or is WYSIWYG?

regards

JK

I agree that GC3 galaxy feels restrictive relative to GC2.

There's still a great deal to do before release.

I guess the question is, what, specifically, do you like about the look of GalCiv II versus GalCiv III?

I like the freedom of the main map, which helps me imagine that space is 3D.

The idea, that I have to protect my space by guarding it's borders - in free space , in vast free space.

The hexes disturb me. They demand from me to think in strategy and not in exploration and prevents me freeing my mind to go where no one has gone before.

May be I can describe my behaviour in Civ V: I play without hexes to enjoy the wilderness, I switch to hexes when it gets complicated (war).

Maybe it can help, when one could switch off the hexes in the main map as one likes?

When I am talking here I could add some ideas I miss in GalCIV II:

I would like to have the opportunity to build stargates for instant jumps (like that in Babylon 5 where large ships are needed to build them in the distance). I would like to build large ships which can be equipped with a jump drive which can jump directly into space.
