Okay, i found a graphical error, enclosed the pictured. Dont think it should be that way.
Also, noticed the sound when zoomings into a planet. really nice. Maybe SD should change it with real nasa sounds of planets.
The Earth sounds like this:
Noticed a strange thing, earth is losing ts confidence in me, the people are not happy but it seems i cant do a thing about it. I did build a hospital, but that didnt help.
1. From your 1st sceenshot, it looks like Pioneering is indeed the tree item selected (with the left/right glow). The solid fill on Benevolence means you've already unlocked it.
2. Planetary Approval requires Goods & Services > Population. Earth starts with 8.0 pop and 8.0 G&S, so after a few turns its approval will start dropping. To fix that, you must research and build Entertainment items in the Governance tech tree. Hospital increases growth rate, not G&S.

And about the first picture, i dont think the letters should be in front of the yellow rectnagle. Looks weird
