Capture planet w/influence - issue with docked ships

So I took over another planet due to having a boatload of influence. The AI had a ship docked in there as a defender. I spotted the little guy and tried to eject it, and the game tells me I can't because I don't own the ship. I'm not sure if this is intended behavior.

I would think that by release it will be automatically ejected as I don't think you can park a ship on a planet other than your own.
