Suggestion For Bug Reports

I take the screenshots and chose to submit it to stardock directly via support desk. (which I had to create a separate account for by the way) They take a week to reply and then direct me to collect a bunch of information about my system and the different error logs and and save game files for them, when all the details they needed are in the screenshot. (I even edit the picture and type on it what the exact issue is so they are not looking for it)

My question is, since this is beta and they know they will need a ton of information for each bug reported, why not build in a bug submit right inside the game?

That could collect the current save game, error logs, and any other details from the system they need (system specs etc) with a click of a button?

I realize that this is not as simple as I am making it sound however wouldn't this streamline the process and thus give you a more efficient prioritization process?

Just sounds like there are too many avenues for reporting bugs and given the hoops I am expected to jump for each bug report I understand why people simply post screenshots to the forum and let someone else take it from there.

Am I the only one who feels the bug reporting process could use some serious TLC? You might be surprised by how many more people would contribute to the process if it werent so cumbersome.

While we are at it is there some place to view what bugs have been submitted already?

Yes please, I am sure we are all just submitting the same bugs on top of each other in some cases.

At least I am not the only one wondering this. Although that being said more bug reports on the same thing might bump it up to the top of the priority list, very old school method of collecting information but I guess it does keep someone employed somewhere. Just seems inefficient from the outside looking in.

Stardock is skilled at writing utility programs, so why not write a simple addon that runs separate from the GC3 and collects all the needed data and send all the bug info with a couple of prompts and a simple click of the mouse?

I am sure I am missing something but it does seem rather inefficient, plus Stardock Tech Support closed the ticket claiming it "solved" as I did not send all the extra info they asked for as that save file was overwritten already, who is working for who anyhow? Ha!

Now I see why people skip submitting to tech support and simply post screen shots to the forum circumventing that process. Guess they are the quiet supporters of of a bug ticket revamp as well.

Cheers!

I don't think Stardock has much control over the features available in their ticket submission facility as it comes from something called "Kayako help desk software".  It does, however, allow you to do a search for previous reports of your problem, as long as you can get close to the wording someone else used to create a ticket.

Interesting, however I wasn't really going on about the software, rather the amount of work the end user has to do in order to submit a simple bug report. The process could be automated by Stardock right inside the game. Better yet a small memory resident utility that can submit the bug when a crash to desktop happens of perhaps a call to action.

Just seems like they could cut the clutter out by automating some of these things like pulling the most recent save file, the computer specs, and so on instead of us having to do this each and every time we want to submit a typo or a UI tweak or a CTD.

I was simply wondering if anyone else thought the bug submission process could use some love is all. I have just noticed how many people chose to forsake the proper method and just dump their thoughts in the Steam or GC3 forums. I have to admit it seems like the enlightened method of submission as then someone else can handle it from there.

Good hunting to you all!

Yes, I think it would be great if issues, problems, and loops could be submitted to the devs in game. I also remember that they had intended to use the Steam Workshop to assist in automatic submission of CTDs, but found out that Steam only supports that feature for 32bit packages, not for 64 bit. Perhaps they are waiting for Steam to get off the stick and upgrade?

Yes, wouldn't it be great if the whole world actually followed through with 64 bit migration? Perhaps in another decade or so when they launch a 128 bit architecture, I means 64 bit architecture has only been around for what..? Since the mid 80's?
