Trading When at War

When you're at war with a race, you can still trade technology with them. While it can make sense in the context of a peace offer, ex. take these blueprints and cash and leave us alone, however being able to trade with them normally does not make too much sense, seeing as you're at war and such. I'd suggest making it mandatory to have a peace treaty when "trading" with a race you are at war with, or something of that nature.

Similar odd issue...

Myself and another faction are at war, been at war for some time and on 3 different UP votes, they have voted favorably for me.  Meaning votes where you had some kind of gain if you were voted for, they continue to vote for me.  That seems a bit off.  Every other faction seems to vote for themselves and the one that hates me and is at war votes for me?

On the topic of UP behaviors, it would be nice if for votes where you are voting for a faction, instead of just taking the faction with the most votes, if no faction gets a majority there is a run-off between the top two vote-getters.

Never mind trading for tech, the Drengins just sold me all their Corvettes while we at war, turned around and used them to blow the space station to dustbunnies. Probably not intended :)

Humans Win!

Agree no air in their right processing would trade with who they are at war with.

A human won't but as I put in another thread, it would surely depend on what they were trading, and what race we are talking about. There are several factors to put into this to make it feel right.

What the AI Needs is a sense of when it's at war, or at peace and what it's priorities are. Traders valuing trade techs very highly, drengin valuing weapons very highly, humans valuing expansion techs highly, altarians influence techs highly, individual preferences to fit their strengths and hopefully later beta game builds unique playstyles. This means they are more likely to ask for them too hopefully in trade, which makes for stronger AI.

War to the Drengin is just like a way of life. Would that warlike race trade you a way to improve your environment (even in war), possibly, especially if you were giving them weapons. Would that warlike race give you weapons, definitely not. Would anyone give you weapons in war? Probably not, would anyone give you weapons outside of war, unlikely but possibly trading civs or your allies would, but it's doubtful those that don't like you much would ever give you weapons to shoot them.

As you can see, many factors need to be written in for it to make sense. Tech trading needs to remain at the very least on the level of tribute to buy a peace treaty, so you can throw loads of techs to an AI to get a temporary peace which will give you time, but also make them stronger, hopefully weighted to their individual preferences again influence/weapons/trading/expansion/diplomacy etc.
