Galactic Event "The Scout" and Cloaking Device
Has anyone else received this event? For pragmatic it says that it unlocks cloaking device. I thought I read cloaking devices were not going to be in the game.

I thought I heard the same as it presented major problems for the AI, but this was very early in the alpha. They may have solved the issues.
What kind of event, I just searched the xml files and did not find one.
It was a "galactic event," called "The Scout." The dialogue was something like: "You find an alien looking at your planet and quickly surround it. Then you find out the alien is from across the galaxy looking around and in a cloaked ship." Then you get the three options of what to do (good, evil, neutral). I remember two of the bonuses, unlocking cloaking device and +50% engineering research, mostly because I thought the +50% engineering research was op and if the cloaking was not real how severely unbalanced the choices were. I did pick the option that unlocked Cloaking, but I could not find this technology. I quickly saved my game afterwards as to take advantage of this if it was actually there. The race I was playing, if that matters, was Drengin.
I traced the events and techs, not sure but it may just reduce the other civ detection of you at longer ranges.

The cloaking device might just be part of the lore of the event for flavor, the actual thing received may be just the research bonus.

Nice, so if its disabled for beta then this is just a placeholder and grossly unbalanced until cloaking goes live? Do you see Cloaking Device in the tech tree somewhere? Or did you fin that in the game files?

I remember cloaking in moo2, it was fun and even looked cool way back then. Didn't Paul say it was to difficult to get into game as it may cause Ai issues?

The ai is pretty stupid as is now, dont defend planets and pile all their ships up in one pile. I just droped the dregin empire in one turn with just my transports
you can get a tons of ships by at the last planet offer them a peace treaty for bunch of those piled up ships
I have had the event in three games already. Haven't actually seen it on the option to build yet, maybe because something else was lacking. I have only finished one game, the other got deleted after patches came out.
