How is combat different than FE and LH?

First of all, I love FE and LH. The combat is fun, but could use some improvement. Mainly, ranged weapons have unlimited range. Is this changed in Sorcerer King?

Do ranged weapons and spells still have unlimited range?

Are ranged weapons affected by obstructions?

Are the battle maps larger?

Are there flanking/rear attack bonuses?

Are there terrain effects for offense and defense?

What else is distinguishingly different about combat in Sorcerer King?

Thank you in advance!

The changes are in other direction - to make battles even more simple by having smaller maps and more movement points.

So it is "no" to your questions.

Hmm.  Ok, so combat is less of the focus in this game, then?

I think one big change is that you're no longer up against other trained faction units. You'll almost exclusively face off against special monsters which means you'll need to adapt to their specializations and spells. That said, combat feels more or less the same as in FE:LH so far.

The main difference is that battles are mostly about putting your magic/special abilities against the other side's.  The skill comes from knowing when to use what rather than strategic positioning.
