Question about Current AI

I know we have a 'placeholder' AI. Does the current AI get 'bonuses' to Research/production/pop growth when set at higher levels?

Assuming all things equal, I find it very hard to believe that the AI is capable of getting 12 techs ahead of me without research or production bonuses.

Beside that they trade techs like little maniacs i have found the following info in GalCiv3AIDefs.xml:

Bonus (per colony) to

Beginner Normal Gifted Genius Godlike
Approval 0% 10% 20% 30% 50%
Growth 0% 10% 20% 30% 50%
Production 0% 25% 50% 75% 100%
Research 0% 10% 20% 30% 50%

Research Cost Divider

2 2 2 2 2

I guess that 'Research Cost Divider' means that the AIs only needs to spend half of the number of research points per tech of the number of research points that the player has to spend for the same tech.

Ok, Thanks for the information. So they will always pull ahead early game, its completely possible to crush them but they will be ahead of you. Knowing this I may restart a game and disable research victory.

Larsenex,

there is no need to disable the Technological Victory. The AI is so inefficient at colony management that you overcome his bonuses by simply building (adjacency) efficient colonies yourself. The AI seem to prioritize terrain bonuses over improvement adjacency bonuses, which results in very low actual total bonuses. The best way is to simply ignore the terrain bonuses (unless they happen to coincide with a improvement) in favour of improvement adjacency bonuses.

At this moment the AI in each and every of its facets is a joke. The best way to ground the tech advancement of the AIs to a halt is simply propose (and win) the UP tech trading ban. Because without the tech trading they all seem to research the same tech sets (mostly Warfare) and at a pace that the player can easily surpass.

I don't need to worry about the AIs. I easily out perform them. I out colonize them. I out research them. I overwhelm them in combat.

I will worry about the AIs when they are no longer a joke.

Again this is a placeholder AI. I know that this time around we have been asking for more/better AI that does not need bonuses to compensate for its lack of creativity in tile placement or planet specialization.

I suspect that Brad will likely do a good job but Modders like MarivinKosh and others will greatly improve it. Of course all this hope is laid AFTER we go gold next year....
