That's a classic GalCiv thing.  But I agree that a little goes a long way.

Fair enough. I may be a little harsh in this respect, but I have had a couple of "Really?" moments. If it were me, I wouldn't take them all out, but I would pick and choose - because it messes with the setting. The intro is so epic and the music is epic, the art work is epic and then the events are taken out of Theme Hospital (great game btw) - the game feels anti-climatic. So be a goofy game or don't be a goofy game. Or be a neutral game. Right now it's like a pimple on the face. To put it in GalCiv terms:

I think it wasn't something that was paid for, but was more a gift to the founders. Meaning Stardock can pick and choose if they want. It's a great idea, but I am urging a tighter leash with the name-curating. Or maybe if the name is TheDarkOne1999, a change to Dark One - depending on how much time they want to sink into it.

One nice thing about this game is that most of the text used in it can be modified by the user. If you don't like a particular comment or joke you can edit it to suit your own taste.

127.0.0.1 is the self reference ip number of a computer, also known as host system or home system. But clearly you did get that, since you made a reference to 'There is no place like home'.

I think I got the solution... You can name ships, name planets and starbases... WHY NOT NAME STARS?! That's it, that's the ticket! If I don't like it, I can change it. Problem solved.

Pretend the names are a result of cheap translator technology. And the weird number ones were discovered by the Yor....

The jokes in technology flavour text has always been a GalCiv thing so it's to be expected, interested parties can always work on a serious GalCiv Mod though as that text is all moddable in the XML. If someone does produce a serious GalCiv Mod I will probably play that as well as the origional depending on my mood.

Likewise for starnames actually, for me this isn't a big deal, a lot of founders starnames are fine and you can always just rename any you don't like that pop-up in the game or just create a sensible games mod. There will probably be one you can just download within a week or too of release.

I have always enjoyed the GalCIV humor that give the game its own little breath of fresh air. The Yor have a great sense of humor.

But, I honestly don't know how some of these star names even got past approval and force me to conquest against the poor Drengen who colonized it just to change the name in game.

Allot of good names but 5% of them really fell threw the approval crack and really effect immersion. Its like having Miley Cyrus pop up on the screen and starts twerking while I'm trying to watch the Jesus today program.  Not very immersive, I mean appropriate.

Lancastriaa Land of the Mole -  Lancastriaa , great name for a star but the land of the mole after the name?!?

Goderis Prime Gods Gift -    Now this one is interesting and I believe it is bugged in the game or its a developer name; it shows up as "Gods Gift" but is missing the Goderis Prime in the beginning. I see no "Gods Gift on the list".

Yes PART of our founder payment was for naming stars but in the fine print they were suppose to be well,,, appropriate. What about those who paid for a steak but didn't want the chef to overcook it?

I am not asking for these to be changed, we can just do that our selves. I know ya guys got more important things to do code wise but Just for future reference; let this be a lesson and spend a bit more time in approving things like this. It is like ya made a nice BMW and some funny guy paints ford emblems on the doors and it goes right by quality control onto the show room floor. Not cool.

You shouldn't let anyone on the internet annoy you. If their opinion bugs ya, just ignore it and move on with your life!

I also didn't feel that his opinion was whining very much, it is profoundly clear that many people do not like having their gaming immersion messed with by silly names that take away from this experience.

That being said, his comment about burnt steak made me kind of hungry for steak..
