Ideology lock-out

Can't exit the ideology screen if not enough points to unlock an option. I have 168 benevolence & 20 pragmatic. There's only 1 benevolent left but it costs 169 and I cannot exit the screen in any fashion: done button says I need to make a choice first. I can't buy anything pragmatic either with that paltry amount. But what's going to happen when I'm maxed out?

Just came on to report a similar issue.

I have 40 Benevolence and the game is forcing me to pick the tier 2 ideology "Mindfullness" in order to continue. It looks like I should be able to store my points for the T3 options which cost 50 points, since the T3 options are unlocked.

That's by design.  Progress through ideology trees is breadth-first.  You cannot save points and skip tiers.

The bug is when you have insufficient points to unlock, but it thinks you do, which traps you.   Probably a round-off error.

Pardon me for saying so, but that is a stupid design. Also, if that's the case, then there's a bug that the T3 ideologies appear unlocked when you have enough credits to purchase them but haven't unlocked all of the preceding row.

did they change it? at least in the alpha the trees stated something like you need 2 ideology unlocks before you can reach third tear or something.
further with the highlighting of the next tier once youve unlocked a certain number of ideologys it certainly implies that you can save up and use them on the next tier even though the game forces you to spend them as soon as you are able to

Well, I suppose you could game the Ideology trees by synchronizing your colonizers so that you gain a whackload of Ideology points in the same turn, thereby leaping over the points gap.

For example, if the tier-2 cost is 33 and tier-3 is 45, then you lurk at 24 points by stalling 2 colonizers ... and then colonize 3 in the same turn to hit 54.  See if that lets you unlock a tier-3 instead of a tier-2.

It's a Beta.  This is what we do!

As far as techs and points in the ideology tree It really depend on how the points work. Assuming it works like regular techs in galactic civilizations when you purchase a tech then your points are used up. Then you have to save points for the next tech. What's being suggested is you should be able to skip techs by purchasing only the techs you want regardless of where that are. Forgoing the progression of knowledge where you need to be able to know easier ttechs first. This would be cheating to my opinion. You have to learn the easier techs first. Civilization offered an option that doesn't do this but it was nice where there was multiple paths to a tech. This required progression of techs but there were two paths to get there. Making it appear that you were ski

Um no.You can totally skip techs in the tech tree. It's not cheating, it's called strategic choice.

You can't skip techs in the ideology tree. Why? Seeing as the ideology tree presents exactly the same as the tech tree (including "glowing" techs in the next tier when you unlock a single tech in the current tier) it seems like either a bug or a design failure.

Probably they think it's overpowered to beeline for a tier 5 Ideology.  Those are supposed to be game-breakers, so you should suffer more than that to get them.

As for the UI possibly misleading you: It's A Beta.  Many UI things are half-done and still evolving.  Suspend judgment (while you agitate for change).

If the UI is misleading you, you should report it to the Devs. They may not be aware of it. Open a ticket.
