Hi! I just wanted to report that I am SO happy with the performance improvement - I have a laptop with an intel processor, and I heard in the dev-stream about the fonts being rebuilt for beta 2 - and it was worth it!!!! My FPS is 1,000,000,000,000,000,000 better! Thanks!
I agree, the performance improvement is glaring. Probably due to the integrated graphics card support. I didn't quite get a quintillion-fold increase. 
If I remember Paul's explanation three weeks ago, the deal was this.
Font system broke on laptops with integrated and discrete graphics. For a temporary fix they just force use of the integrated card. However, that's the weaker card. Now, us gaming laptop users are actually using our powerful gaming cards. The performance difference is night and day and I'm surprised the change log didn't emphasize that in big, bold letters.
