Commanders and Crew Experience Addition

Commanders and Ship Experience Addition

I’m excited for the upcoming release of Galciv and was hoping to see the development of “Heroes” to create a more memorable gameplay experience especially with fleet battles in a sandbox universe

There is such a great community here in these forums and I’d love feedback from the players and developers for possible development of adding commanders.  I know Paul mentioned it for an expansion but I’m hoping the interest is enough to tie a lot if it to the core gameplay mechanics.

My suggestions below (I’d love to hear more from the community!)

Spawning Commanders:

Based on combat points (similar to Civ5 where it is based on number of battles fought)

or

Military Academies (superstructure and then expanded based on tech levels)

TRAITS Commander Experience bonuses:

-Leveling up - set increase of Attack, Defense, Fleet Logistics Expansion (Love Paul’s idea of moving commanders to different ships and taking their experienced crews with them.) Heading up the fleet he is commanding could gives his fleet these bonuses:

-Increased Repair Rate

-Increased Range

- Race Specific Bonuses (example: Drengin Killer)

-Planetary Invasion Bonus

-Planetary Defense bonus

-Fleet Movement Speed

Other Possible Traits???

-Increased Happiness (where commander is stationed)

- Increased Military Production  (where commander is stationed)

MISC:

Main civilization leader could be the first Commander: (doesn’t die but faces certain negative traits like in Fallen Enchantress and Rome II after a defeat in battle)

Ship addition: Survival Pods give the commander and his crew a  chance to escape a losing battle.

All nice little nicknacks already proven to enhance game enjoyment in other games.

i have not played through galciv3 very much yet, but i thought i heard something here and there about 'flagships'? wouldn't that or should that be like a commander?

There are dark tabs in the ship designer still, its hard to tell what's what. It is likely to be a dlc if not in by release and I would welcome it.

The devs have stated that they plan on messing around with this concept. You've have given some nice suggestions.

I would welcome something like this, it creates some attachment to your fleets and their accomplishments.

On this sort of topic....I think the wrong way to do it is like Rome II, in that game your generals would get % based stat increases (like 2% movement, 3% damage), it is always best if the levels for leaders/fleets feel like they are making an important difference to the game. I would always rather have fewer levels that have an impact on the way you play over frequent levels that add imperceptible stat buffs.
