[.42][Bug or by Design?] Destroying Last Enemy Planet Creates White Enemy Zombie Ships, Shipyards

Taking out the last planet of another race causes remaining existing ships and shipyards to turn white. These ships/shipyards never move again, and they cannot be attacked or destroyed; the race retains points, and it seems the game will not end with a conquest victory.

I also have encountered this issue.  It would be neat if they became pirates.

Reavers!  Try to not use the Pax on the last planet.   8O

It is not that you can't destroy them, its nobody on your ships dares to get close...

It is my understanding that this was always planned to be the case. The feature is just not implemented yet. My ships don't care what planet you call home as long as they get to blow you up! ;)

Basically, I'm trying to learn if my game is essentially over (unwinnable) if I knock off the last planet of a race without first destroying all of its ships and shipyards and probably starbases.

Not at all. The ships that are left over aren't able to be attacked, same for the startbases and shipyards, but you will still win the game without problem.

OK. That's good to know; however, it isn't clear how that can be accomplished. If no other race in the game has colonies, and no other race in the game has ships etc. except for the white, immobile, invulnerable ones, then what deed will end the game with a victory?

Sorry, I had assumed you knew what to do to win. All you have to do is just capture the last remaining planet of your last remaining enemy and you win! Does not matter how many "white/pirate" ships or shipyards there are left on the map, as long as you capture that last planet you're winning on the next turn.

The going-in assumption here is that capturing the last planet of a race is what turns the ships white, and I have captured the last planet of all (both) races, at which point all of their fleets and shipyards are white. So, no planets to conquer, no ships in-play to destroy. Not sure what needs to be done; or, one of my assumptions is faulty.  I would rather know if this is a bug, or by design, before I build enough ships to view all hexes in the universe simultaneously in order to prove it is a bug.
