Battle for a Planet.....

I’d love some advanced information about planetary invasions for the founders vault; How will it work in GC3 I hope it will be a bit better than GC2 it was always underdeveloped in that game.

What will it look like will it work in a similar way to space combat? We set tactics and which weapons to allow maybe?

Will there be specialist modules in a addition to troop modules that can help, such as EM pulse weapons to take out equipment over a wide area or nano-tech modules, etc. Or will all planetary attack weapons you have be available automatically?

Will you have multi-turn battle for the planet? E.g. multiple game turns over which you have to make strategic decisions to take over hexes? I’m not suggesting that it become a sub game but rather that the battle for the planet is not concluded as soon as you invade but can wage for years over several game turns with you bringing in more troop ships and weapons, etc. That might be more fun.

Lastly visually will you improve upon the radio show approach?

As I say feel free to put something in the founders vault or give us a clue on the forum before beta 3 :-)

I wouldn't mind having actual units on the planetary tiles. Some think this would be a sub game but in actuality it could simply be the same deal as the main map just ground troops you could move around hexes - the units could be png graphics to match the improvement tiles. Also an on/off setting could let the computer do the battle if someone didn't want to get bogged down with it (i.e. if one side had a clear advantage).

I think it would make placing improvements on the map even more interesting - because you could place improvements strategically in protective areas. The key though would be to keep it very simple (and brief). A limited amount of moves could be allowed (like a 'move count-down' of the landing transport's troops heading for/attacking the capital). As long as the moves are limited it could all be done at once and not over several turns.

Also a simple, limited amount of unit types like Air Squadrons (non-space) and ground Battalions (which could convert to sea transports while passing over water) and possibly 1 unique unit per major race (i.e. humans = a Brigade of Space Marines).

I am not suggesting building units as you do with your fleet ships on the main map but rather having the battle units  allotted based on your planets military numbers/improvements, the overall population and other factors the developers would feel are important. Basically you get more units the healthier, happier and level of preparedness your planet is. The unit types you get would depend on your population and what you have chosen to build as planetary improvements. I suppose the move countdown could very from 6 moves to 12 moves based on the strength of the landing transport as well.

Okay so after typing all that I guess it WOULD be a sub-game but I still think it would all be very exciting just the same! ;P

Hi all !

Yes I hope too that the planetary battles will be better than in galciv II !

Hope the developers will programming planetary ground defenses like planetary phaser cannon / missile launcher / mass-driver guns and

planetary shield-generators to defend against bombardment with asteroid-mass driver ! Then the planet is able to defend without a fleet in orbit !

Only the biggest ships like battleships or titans should be able to use asteroid bombardment ( frigates are to small ) and asteroid-mass driver

must be researched !!

How wonderful would it look like if an  "BATTLE SCREEN" would opening with a fleet of battleships firing their asteroid-mass drivers against the planet

with big explosions on the surface and the planetary defenses firing back with all guns they have !!!

If a defending fleet is in orbit too then it will be a very hard battle because the attacker fights against a fleet supported by planetary defenses.

Only if the planetary ground defenses are destroyed you can invade the planet with your ground-forces carried in your troop transporters.

Then (I think like you) the ground battle with infantry and tank battaillons and may be atmospheric fighters can begin !

There are so manny examples for good ground battles in other games but the best ground battles in strategie games i ever seen was in

Imperium Galactica II an old realtime game.

OK. Hope the developers read this post. Hope this was no stupid idea from me O:) . lol

Greetings

Bump.  I have tried to look up what the plans are for any planatary invasion combat viewer and what it might look like.  What do the founders know?

End of Stanley's quote

There currently isn't anything in the game for this that I'm aware of, however, I myself haven't invaded any planet for a while.

They have said it will be better then GCII, they have not said much beyond that. It is not currently in the game, but hopefully will be in the next beta, so we can give some feedback before release.
