Ship graphics ugly!

I feel that the graphics for the ships modules are far too simple and .. well so ... 90's!

Please improve the graphics of the modules to bring them up to the current century!

OP Please be clearer and define what is 1990's about them. What's too simple about them Polygon counts seem reasonable in the pre designed ships for a strategy game. Texturing is ok though there are improvements in the scaling of sub-surface textures that should improve issues with texture stretching on custom ships with scaled parts.

And if you don't think the the models are detailed enough you can design our own ships combining as many of the pre-made parts as your computer can handle in the ship editor. even create and save new parts out of the standard parts for future use.

Is there some graphics technique you would like them to use that they haven't?

The way your post reads at the moment it just looks like trolling, but I thought  I'd give you the benefit of the doubt and see if you could expand upon the issue you have with the ships graphics.

The ships look great. I cannot wait to see the other four styles. Currently the Altarian designs are my fav.

Perhaps the OP was playing the Iridium whose 'alien style' is very polygonal. I like the way they look but when I turn off my anti-aliasing they look the worst out of the four races. They kind of evoke a Play Station 1 vibe - but I actually like the look and think it suits the Iridium well. And they look great when all the graphic bells and whistles are turned on.

Thanks for the feedback. I don't know enough about graphics to comment on polygons and such, but if you compare a ship from Eve Online to GCIII, there is clearly a level of detail that seems to be missing from GCIII. Perhaps just more options with skins would make a difference. I really don't know, but certainly it would be nice to have more details, not just at a close up of the ships, but also the icons that represent them.

Auraboy, you're right, I was playing Iridium, and comparatively some of the other ships look nice. I'd still love to see some more options in skins.

I don't care heavily about graphics. I spend a lot of time zoomed out, so I don't see things much. Just don't make it ugly and I'll be happy.

Also, I think it is a bad idea to compare graphics with some of these other games. Some of these companies try too hard to make games with amazing graphics. They lose focus on game play and fun in the process. Do you really need such attention to detail? Does it make a game more fun?

I also think it is wasteful to put too much work into graphics. Games don't need to be 10 GB or more. It puts greater demand on hardware, which I don't think it is needed. I have a high end graphics card, yet I have only a few games I play actually need a high graphics card for.

Its the light from up top, looking underneath the parts shows off the power of the graphics engine. Hopefully this willl be rectified as I think that looks kinda bad, last time I played.*

the light is too bright and brightness seems to have no effect.

The problem with the Iridium especially is their mix of shiny, chrome like parts and flat , dull looking purple colored ones. I think it would look better if the they had all metall like, shiny textures.

And i do agree that the current lighting makes all the ships look flat and made out of plastic.

One other thing I found is, that the shipparts are all very flat. no recess, no small elevations. Just a Texture trying to emulate that look over a flat surface.
