Galactic Civilizations III Beta Opt-In Patch 0.42 Now Available

A minor patch for the Galactic Civilizations beta is available now on Steam on an opt-in basis.

Huge hulls, faster load times, and bugfixes are ready for testing. This patch should go live to everyone soon if no major issues are discovered.

To get the opt-in patch, do the following:

  • Right-click Galactic Civilizations III in your Steam library
  • Open the Betas tab
  • In the drop-down menu, select “opt-in”
  • Steam should automatically update your game

Galactic Civilizations III 0.42 Opt-in Patch notes:

Features

  • Enabled Huge Hulls
  • Game loads faster

Fixes

  • Fixed an issue where ships designed in MP games didn't save properly, causing parts to appear at odd rotations and sizes
  • Fixed an issue causing starbases to ignore logistics points
  • Fixed a crash when attacking from a planet to an adjacent enemy ship
  • Fixed an issue where colony ships would double population after being upgraded
  • Fixed a crash during battles
  • Fixed an issue that could cause valid attack and defense on ships to appear greyed out
  • Fixed an issue keeping restrictions on some improvements from being enforced
  • Fixed a crash using symmetry in the ship designer
  • Fixed a crash when attempting to add a sponsor to a shipyard
  • Fixed an issue where ships could disappear (the player was able to select the terrain which hid everything else in the tile)

Some of the new huge ships duplicate smaller ships.  Also the new huge ships all have terran thumbnails.

I'm confused, I was already building huge ships before this patch.

There is a small bit of clarification for your instructions on steam.

Right-click Galactic Civilizations III in your Steam library
Open the Betas tab
In the drop-down menu, select “opt-in”
Steam should automatically update your game

Need to add the line

Right-click Galactic Civilizations III in your Steam library
Select Properties from the context menu
In the drop-down menu, select “opt-in”
Steam should automatically update your game

I noticed someone had some issues with that piece.

They added stock huge hull ships for the other civs, Terrans were the only one to have them.  All the civs had starter blocks but that was all.

Okay, now I see. I was confused because they didn't add huge hulls, they just linked the huge shipdefs to the large ship models. This is why the icons are wrong, because the Alterians and Iridians don't really have their own huge ship designs.

The interesting case is the Drengin, who have designs for Avatar, Dreadnought, and Fortress, but not for Titan. They got the same treatment as the Alterians and Iridians. This means, that even though they have 3 stock huge ships, they aren't using them. Instead they are using the large designs (Battleship, Cruiser, and Destroyer). This also means that the Drengin Avatar, Dreadnought, and Fortress use the icons for their huge designs, but the actual ships are using the models for the Battleship, Cruiser, and Destroyer.

Sort of. They can build a Titan, but it doesn't have its own model, it is just using the model for the Overlord. The Avatar, Dreadnought, and Fortress, on the other hand, have their own models which are no longer linked to their corresponding shipdefs because the Drengin got the same hotfix as the the Alterians and Iridians despite having 3 of 4 huge models already in the game.
