How do I colonize a habitable planet???

I've tried this game over 20 times and tried all different ways to complete the technology tree and still cannot figure out what it takes to send a colony ship to a habitable planet and take ownership of it. I've seen how the computer races have two or more conquered habitable planets when I uncover their territory on the map.

Can some one please help me with this problem. I'm totally new to this game and there is no user manual available at this time to guide me on taking a habitable planet. thank you.

Build a colony ship, take it to one of your planets that has a population. Then put it in orbit and eject it from orbit. You will be asked how much of the population you want to load on the ship.

 

Now fly it to a planet thats habitable and put it in orbit and you will be asked to name it. Da dah new colony. You can build these ships from the start of the game.

Can you please explain to me how to move all these ships manually where I want them to go? Every time I press the Turn button they automatically move to a preset path by the game. I have no clue how to manually move ships in this game. Thank you.

With your mouse left-click on the colony ship to select it. Right-click on the planet (or any destination) you want to send your ship to. When a colony ship arrives at a suitable planet you will be prompted whether you wish to colonize it.
