Question about unique resources and quantities for building.

So as I was riding into work this morning.....

Lets use Durantium as the resource for this discussion.

I have mined ONE Durantium. I have one in my ledger. Now what can I do with it? Why I can use it to for both Offensive and defensive augments of course, right? Which leads me to a question and perhaps others have already figured it out.

With one Durantium I design a ship with one defensive augment. Now can I build only ONE of that ship or can I build any number as long as I have One Durantium for ONE augment using it?

Now I build a ship with one each Offensive and defensive augments thus requiring TWO durantium. CAn I build it even though my resources only show I own/mine one?

So with those answered I have another question, what is Anti matter used for? Of the weapons/defenses I see in the trees only Elerium (beam attk/defenses) and Durantium (both missiles and mass driver attk/defenses). Is this intentional?

Thanks for the answers.

You can only build one.

No, because you require two durantium. The only way to build that ship is to either acquire a second durantium node, or to improve your mining techs, so you can mine more resources from the node you have.

According to the patch notes, it is supposed to be use for missile and point defense augments. However, that doesn't seem to be the case. Probably a bug.

So Gunathor the NEW design I created with the nifty mass driver augment using my ONE precious durantium, I can only build ONE SHIP correct?

And off it goes and gets promptly destroyed. I still say for amount of work, credits and approval needed to acquire that sole resource the augment is woefully under powered compared to simply researching the next tier of mass drivers. The first augment REDUCES your damage on that ship but you gain a longer range.

Since we have NO idea how combat works at this stage is is almost pointless to add augments since I cannot tell if my ships are not closing close enough to kill before they die. if I knew that then I would be more dilligent on acquiring the resources needed to offset that handicap in combat. Again its far more productive to simply switch weapon focus and go after missiles rather than waste the time needed to research a resource augment. That one ship is one of dozens and just as likely to die in the next major action. Waste of the taxpayers money!

So to recap. For my ONE resource I can build only ONE ship using it. Also that ship is just as likely to die a horrible death and all the effort to build it was lost.

On target?

Yes. However, now that it got destroyed you can build another one. You don't lose the resource, if you build a ship using it. It is just "in use" as long as the ship exists. As soon as the ship gets destroyed or decommissioned, the resource is available to use again.

What is  your take on the value of the augments?

I still say the trouble to mine, research and build a ship does not in anyway meet the value  you get on the finished product.

We will have to see...

It's too early to tell. I can't build an opinion on them without any feedback on how they change combat-performance.

So here is a question lets say you gaunathor have 10 durantium and build 10 ships with it

and I have 0 durantium can you sell me your ships? ( according to intent you shouldn't be able to I'm just curious if this was overlooked by the devs)

And if so will you be able to build more?

I think this boils down to the question: "what happens to your ships, if you no longer have enough resources?" As far as I can tell from playing the game, they stay around. So selling them would be possible. You just wouldn't be able to build ships using durantium of your own, until you have more than 10 of the resource. I, on the other hand, would be able to build more ships, because I no longer have any that require durantium.

If this is intentional or not, I can't really tell. It does seem exploitable on both sides though. As it is, you could sell all your resource-using ships to an ally, and keep building more of them. Repeating this infinitely. However, if no longer having enough resources to support your ships meant losing those ships, then all your enemy needs to do is to destroy your mining starbases, and your fleets will be much reduced. That doesn't seem fair to me.

an easy fix would be reduced effectiveness of any augment ship if you have insufficient resources, ala civ5

This sucks. Augments aren't good enough to have a trade off of damage, and having one ship at a time is disgustingly underpowered.

We aren't completely blind on combat and doing basic math gas shown its not worth it. It needs to be revalued. Make it so.
