Bug .31 Survey ship surveying after wormhole in unexplored area outside its range

Not sure this is a bug, but not sure should be happening.

My survey ship hit a wormhole (or black hole, forgot what they're called) and ended up in an unexplored area outside its range. The ship plotted a path to a nearby artifact, picked it up and then plotted to an artifact back in the middle of my explored territory.  I suppose the first artifact could have been along the path home, but...

Seems like if a ship, even survey ships, finding them outside their range area should immediately plot a path back to the nearest hex and do nothing else until they've reached it.

Its working as intended. Trying to manually set its course will not allow you to get that relic,  however when allowed to do it on automation it will 'veer' off its path home to get the goodie! This was the same behavior in GC 2 as well.

You can click on the ship and click onto a region in your homespace and the ship will follow that path to the exclusion of all else.

Personally I just would automate it and let it do its survey thing.

No, it wasn't. When an automated survey ship was moved outside of range due to a wormhole, it would plot a course to the nearest anomaly within range. The only time it would change that course on its own was, when somebody else got to that anomaly first.

You are correct. I keep thinking that it did in fact 'veer' out to get anomalies if it was out of its range but perhaps not.

I do like how it is  now though.

I had the same issue and more. When I set to auto-survey it can travel all over the galaxy with no range limitation. If I try manually to set a destination out of its range it doesn't go there simply because it can't but when I set the auto survey slowly it starts to travel further and further by moving from one anomaly to another. Eventually it travelled to the other side of the galaxy waaaay out of its range.

Of course I got so many goodies but it's cheating.

I was going to post the same thing--in my last game I wormholed across a large galaxy to the opposite corner when my range was less than half the map... Managed to get an extra survey ship from one anomoly and the two went to town. I's been a few dozen turns and maybe 20 or so anomolies, and they are nowhere near back within their ranges.

I've seen the survey ship plot from inside its range area to outside its range every game so far (even without the wormhole).

However, I believe I've only seen it occur when I manually turned on the Survey mode--I usually have auto-survey off and only turn it on to see where the next one is so I can manually plot to pass through some unexplored areas or star systems along the way.
