0.31 Crash vs galacy size poll.

I am becoming suspicious that the crashes I am seeing may be related to the size galaxy I am playing. It may also have something to do with the amount of resources available (but I don't think so in my case) so I am including some hardware information. If everyone could post an answer to this questionnaire, perhaps we will find a pattern.

OS         RAM   GPU                       GPU RAM  Galaxy size   Crashes? # colonies # civs Turns Notes

Win8.1  16G    GeForce GT 640   4G              Large             Yes.          15              4         25+   Crashed during EOT.

Win8.1 16G     GeForce GT 640   4G              Medium          Yes           28+           4         50+   Crashed assigning Starport Sponsors.

Win8.1 16G     GeForce GT 640   4G              Small              1              27              4         150+ Crashed once, restarted OK.

maybe also include number of AI players/turns

And perhaps number of planets colonized. I have modified the original post with my latest crash.

I'm having lots of crashes recently for trying to assign starport sponsor. Also, if a planet got captured by an enemy (because I wasn't paying attention) and it had a starport it would get orphaned and when I tried to assign it, it would crash the game.

Win 8            largest map currently available         MSI Laptop        2 civs    22+ planets colonized  900+turns

all but one research item researched (if researched it I couldn't play anymore in that game)

Isn't anyone else testing the medium and large galaxy sizes???? Are there only three of us????

got my own info to put in.  Not a crash per se but a game freeze.  OS: Windows 7 pro.  GPU: Geforce GT 550Ti.  Turns 100+.  Civs 3 (total).  Size: large.  VRAM: 1 GB  The problem is a freeze where it is processing the AI turns.  I tried debug and rolling back but it froze.  I forget colony count but map was NOT fully colonized-that I am 100% certain of

Every game I have played with medium or large size galaxy has crashed ( haven't tried smaller galaxy sizes ).  It always crashes between turn 200 and 400.  In no case was the map fully colonized.

Win 7, i7-4771, 16GB RAM, Nvidia GTX660

All of my large galaxy games (about 10 so far) have crashed between turns 150 and 400. These have been reported to support along with save files and dumps.

I just received word from StarDock that they have located the problem and the fix will be in the next patch (no word on when the next patch will be, though).

The vram needs to be between tree or four times your physical memory doesn't it.

Huh???  Sorry, but your question is, in itself, confusing. VRAM means Virtual Random Access Memory, where as "physical memory" is typically referred to as RAM (Random Access Memory). And I don't understand why anyone would try to set a fixed ratio between them, since that is more of a function of application behavior, which is too variable from app to app to make setting a ratio viable. For example, data entry apps like text (or wysiwyg) editors, spreadsheet apps, and power point apps can function quite well with a larger paging rate, so a three or four to one ratio may be reasonable, where as games with very active graphics would exhibit performance problems much more quickly with a lower paging rate and would require a smaller ratio.

Didn't know that I was told to do that through windows to change m maximum memory size like this and to change it every so often to increase computer performance. The windows default is one ad half times. I'm going to try it your way since you are a computer expert to.

Now I really don't know what you are talking about. Is this an OS option of some kind? If so, perhaps if you told me how to get there I could be of help.
