What did I do.

Steam and InSSider will not work unless I run them in Safe Mode with networking.

This happened after I ran a program to optimize my autorun.

I am not pulling out my hair for I have an image from 12 days ago. Just because of stuff like this I keep images.

I would prefer to find out what was done and fix it. The challenge.

Any ideas would be welcome.

I have already tried reinstalling Steam and updating my Java, Flash and Shockwave.

I have also gone through my services using Wise Care 365.

Some setting somewhere was changed, just which one mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Also my Diskeeper will not work.

Control Panel will open but going to an item causes a crash.

MY Explorer has restarted at least twice.

And my Catalyst control center will not open.

It seems to be something to do with the User Interface.

In my experience programs you download of random websites that claim they will make your computer x% faster / clean your computer / boost performance / optimize your autorun / that sort of stuff, are at best useless and at worst ransomware.

 

So unless you got that program from a reliable/verified company, i would start there.

This sounds like a virus. Might suggest a few virus cleaning programs. Several of the anti-virus software sites have such tools.

Started steam in safe mode but GC3 did not start.

Failed to initialize display.

will run antivirus program.

I went clean crazy in safe mode:

AVG virus

AVG Tune up

Spybot

10bit Maleware Fighter

CCleanner

Wise 365

Wise Registry

tweaking.com

Still the same. some setting in the registry is changed it seems.

try asking on some PC focussed or PC help forums they might know more.

Sounds like a much bigger issue than Steam.

I'd honestly try for a system restore point. If things like the control panel are dying something is veyr veyr very wrong with your system at its core.

I have done RegCurePro and now the only probleml I have is steam starting but after my profile is loaded it dies and is not in the process.

I tried to reinstall over what I had but feel I will have to delete steam and reinstall from scratch.

You didn't mention using MaleWareBytes. You may want to try the free version, and don't set up any of the automatic functions -- avoid interactions between it and your anti-virus suite.

 

You haven't mentioned what level OS you are running. If it is Win8 or Win8.1 your last resort could be a Windows Refresh. I had to do this because of "adware" and a "browser hijacker" that came at me from out of the blue (probably from some freeware I downloaded).

spybot and 10bit should have done it for me.

I figured 2 algorithms and AVG Premium would be good enough.

Win 7 Premium 64 bit

Still having probs with user interface on some programs.

Seriously try a Windows System Restore point

 

Otherwise if you're getting that level of corruption, a format is likely your only option.
