Are shipyards in Alpha at this time?

I have seen a lot of posts on them but have not had a game last long enough to path down the trees. 

 

Are shipyards in game and I am just missing the tech to unlock them?

Not yet, they are scheduled to be released with the next Alpha version. Hopefully it will be out soon.

Ok thanks. I have rush built some cosntructors and did not see an option to build a starport. 

 

I was reading some of the PDFs in the vault and Brad's recent one is very helpful.

It looks like you are talking about "spaceports" which we are hoping to see the first of in Alpha 3, as avatar137 said. Or, are you talking about designing ships ("Ship Designer" from the startup menu (currently greyed out with tooltip "coming soon") or "shipyards" from the right tab at the top of the main map and does not require a tech to be researched (which came out in Alpha 2))?

I am familiar with the ship designer. It is coming along nicely! Spaceports or Shipyards. Which is which? 

 

What is the thing that will allow us to build ships 'off planet'?

Oh speaking of Ship designer, I finally figured it out but it was NOT intuitive on how to remove a piece off a ship. 

 

DOUBLE click, I see that now. 

 

However if we had a button that says REMOVE in the bottom left box, it would be easier on idiots (which I am one).

The shipyard and the ship designer look like the same thing except that the shipyard, since it is accessed from within a game, is restricted by what tech has been researched within the game and the ship designer, if you want my guess, probably will not, which looks a lot like it was on GC2.
