Sure, but then sully1 showed up with his metaphoric super model girlfriend. LOL (its a effective design that can handle attacks from most angles, nice sully1 +1 )

we desperately need a file sharing system because I am getting envy...lust.

Ima build some more and see if I can make a good Iridium design with my free time, I like the iridium...and building now. :) (and $1,000)

A lot of very interesting designs so far.

At most I was impressed by

  • Seilore - Borg ships
  • erischield - Orbiter concepts
  • memoryofadream - blue something
  • peregrine23 - Drengin and Alterian concepts
  • Edladner - Mech Dragon
  • trumpeter87 - assymetric ships
  • Thecw - Troubleshooter

Unfortunately I'm no graphical genious, but I'd like to show up with my first concept setup:

The Seeder

It is a freighter ship, designed for long range colonization duty. So it has some good engines, enhanced range, a rotating crew circle to simulate gravity, colonizer modules built as bioshpere, shields to deal with armed scouts and some long range scanners to find suitable planets. It should fit into a further complete concept I have in mind...probably I am able to hit the deadline for the ship designer contest.

Those are really great shots of your ships, Adamb. I appreciate you sharing. I can see the competition is going to be fierce.

My latest contest submission #4.

Pure Terran designed small scale Fighter/Bomber. The "Crusader". Nothing but Terran ship parts used.

Sleek little fighter, Rand

Rand super job.  GC3 designer allows for much better fighters over what GC2 did.

Grathocke I love the explorer and gunboat

adamb1011 I dislike most Altarian ships, BUT I love yours

Skukkuk your ship is probably the most realistic one posted

Awesome Ships guys!!!............ :D

Thanks Grathocke and Nastytang

And Ed, thanks for the kind words. I find altarian ships really hard to design - the lack of flat/square edges makes them difficult to put together without noticeable blemishes etc. But I also love the end result, so it's often worth the extra effort.

@stardock: it would be great to get some more altarian parts that have a couple of flat edges and surfaces as well as mostly rounded ones, to help them fit together so to speak. These edges would not be exposed, but serve as building blocks so designers can be more flexible. There's a couple already, but the edges and surfaces don't match up well and leave sharp edges exposed, and I think the style you are trying to achieve with altarian ships is a more rounded and flowing one.

Just curious, how are you guys all submitting your contest entries? Are you submitting a single view or a combination of views? Or are you submitting one view and then a link to a video? I'm just torn about the best way and figured I'd ask what you all are doing... I'm finishing up a few designs and I'm really excited to post them here.

These are my design for the contest.  My Command ship, a battleship, a salvage ship and a fighter.

I have the same problem with them. It is really hard to make a beautiful ship. However, yours is outstanding! It is so much more than I thought possible.
