Just wondering what the idea behind limiting these are. When i started out exploring i could only go so far and could not go any further until i had taken more planets. What is the reason for this?
Its called range and every ship has it, you can research life support techs to increase it that way. Planets and starbases also have a free radius of range. Ships with more and advanced life support go further as well.

Think of the range (life support) on being limited to how far they can talk to home. You can't go further than that because your life support system (supplies, communication, ect...) can't go out that far. Now there are other ways that you could limit this but, it works okay.
