"Global" credits/income in Planet view

Or lack thereof

For me, a big part of planet management is the state of the civilization has a whole.  That is, if my total credits are high enough, then I'm not as worried about a planet that is bleeding money.  Or, when sitting on the planet screen, thinking about whether to "buy" a improvement, I like to ponder how much of a dent it makes in my coffers.  Or, being able to quickly look at my civilization's income, growth, or what not... those have an impact on how I manage the planet.

In my view, if it has a noticeable impact on a certain feature in the game (planet management), then it should be accessible from that feature's UI. In GC2, "global" values such as credits were provided at the top bottom of the screen - easy reference.  However, in the alpha, as well as in the pic from the founders vault, this is missing in GC3.  Instead, the player has to leave the planet management UI to check... and then head back in to make the decision.  But if you are like me and you take a moment to think, then you end up entering and leaving the planet UI a couple times to double check.  This seems unnecessary.

I suppose this is both a point of feedback as well as a question of why the design is as it is, (I'm open to being convinced that it is better this way). or, whether having global values absent from the planet screen is a temporary lacuna which will be filled in future builds.

I think you meant "bottom of the screen". ;)

Anyhow, I have to agree with you. Those values are vital in order to make good decisions, and, therefore, should be accessible in the Colony Management screen. I shouldn't need to go back to the main screen just to learn, if I can afford to rush-buy something.

I've thought a bit more about this... and just want to add that I think this general principle should apply to all areas of the game.  That is, if in the shipbuilding UI or shipyard it is useful to have global information, then it should be readily available.  If in discussions with other races, it would be best if the user could see the state of that race's relationships with other races.  These sorts of things all make a difference in a player's strategy.

As for how it is done, I have no real opinion other than making it easily available.  I might even be satisfied with a mouseover type thing - though it seems more natural to have it immediately visible.
