Feedback on 0.0.2.0 build

I just finished a couple of games. First of all, congratulations : even in this early stage, the game is still enjoyable (I was expecting something much less polished). On specific aspects :

1) Small galaxies are not so small, I like that.

2) I love the idea of ideology trees.

3) I am dubious towards the improvement placement mini-game : I fear that it will lead to too much micromanagement with big empires.

4) You should be notified when a ship is built.

5) Ejected ships should be automatically selected.

6) I found the research screen difficult to navigate, and research texts not very understandable (especially for specializations).

Hello Crocell44,

I agree with some of your observations:

4. Agree - they could use a flashing icon some where, like in an activity box which you can then pin on your screen. It can show for all completed job cues.

5. Agree - all non-defensive/offensive ships should be auto-deployed/ejected. Or be given the 'default' option for it for all the planets.

Agree with everything but #3. I love the adjacency bonuses and that they make me think about tile placement on my planet.

I too agree with everything you say apart from (3), 6 is very true but I'm hoping the technology view is very much a work in progress looks like there is a lot of placeholder stuff there and it needs some rethinking clearly.

I disagree on point 3, and I think if they keep things the same way as in Gal Civ II, point 5 will be impossible (on a large scale).  To explain, there was a button that you could hit to launch every ship which had been built that turn, the game wouldn't be able to auto select more than one ( though maybe it couple be programed to cycle through those ships first?  I'm not sure)  Also, if I have a planet with several ships at it, and I want to selectively launch off a few of them, I wouldn't want to have to click the planet each time...  though I realize clicking on a ship could also get tedious at points, I guess the devs will have to figure out which is the better way to do it.

End of Markon's quote

I wondered about that after writing my post, and I thought : ejected ship could be selected if it was the last ship defending. But changing the rules of the UI could be confusing.

In any case, when shipyards come into play, our habits may change (and if ships cannot defend a shipyard, there is no point at all).
