Disapointed Graphic Design

First Impression- Did I playing a another GalCiv2

Technology Graphic design- Totally "Copy and Paste" from GalCiv2. I am suggest Renew all technology animation and make every technology animation looks different even only upgrading its level. The Great Animation is let player understand through the animation without reading the description.

Planet Map- 2D?  Even the building icon is fix 2D. Why no make it a little flash? Example: Design some plane fly around the starport. Basic Factory smoking. Technology building blinking. Advanced building show some Aura etc.

Higher Graphic requirement- This is so hard to believe the graphic performance was slow down without any improvement of game graphic design. I prefer playing GalCiv2 honestly because it never lag. i am using i7 and a amd 7700M hd graphic card currently.

First Impression for me. Its an Alpha. Much of what we see is either placeholders or a WIP.

Don't get all jumpy yet, its the alpha. In the Dev Stream yesterday they said they actually reused many of the textures and icons from GalCiv 2 as temporary place holders.

I still find the game to be rather pretty despite all this, even if it is not exactly cutting edge graphics.

Although I second for the zoomed out nebula, those are really an eyesore right now.

As an alpha I would imagine a lot of the art is placeholder at the moment and a lot of polish and content is still to come.

The one event so far in is obviously a placeholder of course there will be more.

The star map however will remain 2d so you will have to get over that.

Your biggest mistake is you have bought into an alpha without understanding the The concept, an alpha is not a feature or content complete game.

While it is an alpha and things will change, it is still important to let the devs know what is good and what is bad at this stage so they avoid unnecessary work.

What people would like to see in terms of graphics is important even if the graphics we have now aren't representative, otherwise 6 months down the line when everyone sees the "finalised" graphics we may well be disappointed and it'll be too late to make major changes...

I agree however the op did not seem to understand what alpha meant and had couched his post in more of a I cant belive that this alpha is not as pretty or complete as a released game.

Posting suggestions is good but I think people do need an understanding of what to expect of an alpha.

For me it was hard to sort valid suggestion from a complaint that it was an alpha in the op.

First Impression- Did I playing a another GalCiv2 by costing $99?

Well, at this point, maybe a little. Alpha.

Lots of placeholders, specially in the art area for obvious reasons. Animation won't be as clear as text, imho. Not when dealing with mumbo jumbo technology.

Planet Map- Why is still 2D? This is unbelievable.. Even the building icon is fix 2D. Why no make it a little flash? Example: Design some plane fly around the starport. Basic Factory smoking. Technology building blinking. Advanced building show some Aura etc. Pls refer Warlock 2. Or maybe u guys plan to make it 3D in GalCiv5?

What's the problem? I'm ok getting a 2D map on my screen. Having to rotate the planets looking for the hex I need to build some lab with bonuses, doesn't seem nice to me. I haven't tried it tough. Eye candy flashy building icons... I don't care one way or the other. I care more about them being visually different, that includes better versions of each kind of improvement.

Playing with a GForce 210 with drivers from 2012. It works fine. I have to play with everything down and windowed to 13xx to get some decent (to me) framerate but I play GalCivII in windowed with low settings anyway.

Speak to Leader- Currently i am not access yet but i hope the Leader should speak (Animation and Sound) and not showing me the boring text. Something like Talking Tom Cat.
End of quote

So you want simspeak, right? Because all of them speaking english would be wrong even if Universal Translator. :p I do agree that it could add to the atmosphere but "boring text" would make "boring speech" anyway. Next is getting a voice to read us the data in the data menus. :p

Flagship collection- The graphic of collection was no difference at all, but the text only. sad!

??

Build my own ship- Hopefully this time the ship accessories is link to the weapon technologies. It is so wired tat simple ship can do high damage, but pretty ship is weak! is just like i can make a cat to kill a tiger.
End of quote

??

Nebula cloud- Disgusting element when i zoom out the map.
End of quote

So far, alpha.

Events- Please do more event, make it all different from: Story & Video Animation. At least make it 300 type of different event to let player can keep discover it, because tat is only element can make the boring strategy game interesting.
End of quote

I like events as much as any fan of events but a boring strategy game would still be boring with events. Events can be used to spice up things but... to make a boring game fun?  o_O

I hope Galactic Civilization 3 can show player more creativity and better graphic design soon because this is my favorite game.

Imho, I wouldn't hold your breath on massive graphical overhauls. What you see here, other than Icons, are likely what is going to be in release, maybe with a bit more polish.

What I saw with GC1 and GC2's Alpha and Beta was they did a lot of graphical overhaul during the external test cycles. So far with GC3 we have only seen Alpha builds 1 and 2. Somewhere in this forum I remember them also pointing out that some of the more esoteric graphics work, such as textures and lighting, are still being worked on, but now I can't find that post. Perhaps this is a case of my fabulous memory coming to the fore (I can even remember things that never happened).

I agree, the graphics are underwhelming but I assume they will get better, at least I really hope so.

There  is a journal post about the graphics engine still having some features added and have also been mentions that a lot of art assets are placeholders taken from gc2.

But what I would not expect is either the star map or colony map to suddenly go 3d.
