I think it would make the player happy to be able to freely place their initial starport and capital on their homeworld; as well as manually placing the capital on colonies as well.
Additionally, how about giving each race one free homeworld building to start the game with - which they can place at the same time as the starport and capital?

while i havent seen the video yet i think that this should be a mix of several buildings of a basic level
i mean look at earth and we are only really beginning to contemplate colonizing other planets weve only barely dipped our toes into space exploration our furthest space probe is just barely out of our solar system
and yet we have a population of 7+ billion people and i would believe a majority of our available space is taken up in some form or another
i would think that starting a game like this at least half of the available tiles should be occupied by basic level structures
give the player say 5 free builds that can be used on farm, research lab or factory. some races could have a specialization allowing you to have the upgraded version of one of these buildings or a special building that can be used instead of one of the others
I really must see that video problem us ut needs flash player so watching on my mobile is out and when I'm on my pc I want to play the Alpha instead.
