My one request for Galciv III, just ONE SIMPLE REQUEST

(re: superpower race event), and one more request.

Stardock, if you make this Galciv with better graphics and hexes I will be happy if you change this ONE thing.  PLEASE change this ONE thing....

You remember when a race all of the sudden would get a source of power that would progressive make them unstoppable as the game went on (sometimes fairly early in the game).  If almost always ruined the game for me.  PLEASE make it a toggle on the game screen, or a slider to give it rules (like only end game thing).

That is my one request!  (And beef up dread lord/pirates random events so it's actually a threat)

Thank you, I'll go back in my hole now.

What?! I love those events! They're the only real challenge!

Wasn't that a Mega Event? Mega Events were toggeable. GalCivIII would follow same path.

Never had an issue qith that event anyway. Waiting for Jagged Alliance v2.0 tough.

Wasn't that a Mega Event?

There were two such events. One was a regular random event, which provided some small bonuses every other turn to some of the receiving race's abilities. The other was a Mega Event, which provided a bonus to all of the receiving race's abilities each turn.

In any case, I didn't had any issues with those events either. The receiving race was almost always the weakest one in the game, which meant, that the bonuses were too little, too late. That race usually got conquered soon after the event happened. Either by me, or one of the others.

I always played with mega events turned off.  The pirate one just killed the game for me when it happened.

However I think there was a regular event version of the one you're talking about too.  I could never tell if it made a difference or not though.  Anyway, if it's not on a toggle, it should be easy enough to fiddle with any event in Galciv 3 (or make your own) by editing the XML files.

I kinda liked the Mega Events, if only because it changed things up a bit.

I'm hopeful we can create our own custom Mega Events. Some of the criteria for the Mega Events are pretty specific though, so I'm not sure how the logic behind them will be handled via the XML?

^This. Never had a particular problem with that particular event myself.  Too little too late on the weakest civ is pretty much the way it happened in my games.

Never had it in early game either.

I just looked to see if there is a toggle and I can't find it! I know mine is happening, and it never really was an issue for me either for the reasons others have stated in their games, but I wanted to see this toggle as I didn't remember it. So, where is it located in the options? Or is this one of those things that you need to edit a file? Thanks.

It's under Game Options once you click on New Game. However, that disables all Mega Events. You can't disable individual ones in GalCiv 2, because they are all hardcoded.

I agree with OP - would be nice to have a way of tuning that event - more options for configuring the game is never a bad thing :)

Ah yes, makes sense that it would appear when you create a new game... Thanks for reminding me of that!

Galactic Civilizations III. 64bits. Tons of RAM. Huuuuuuuuuge map with tons and tons of planets. Jagged Alliance hits in the late game. Cry in a corner. 8O

As I recall, granted I like larger games, but it never was a civ that was almost dead.  Not asking it be removed, just togglable, specifically togglable.

I don't think it matters if its a mega event, or near end game only, yada.  The post originator is merely asking for a way, when setting up a game, to have >> some options << about their appearance (or not) in that game.  If a player doesn't want to exercise any of those options, cool as well.  In principal, I strongly endorse game makers implementing as much user customization as possible.
