Morale or Happiness?

I may have missed it somewhere... is that going to a part of things?  I haven't seen anything in the research, improvements, or planet info or anywhere else to indicate that there would be such thing as planet or civ-wide happiness or morale.  In GC2, managing this could be a big part of how you played.

I assume that since Alpha is focused on conquest, keeping morale involved could slow us down. Did a dev say something about this? (did a search and didn't find anything)

Approval is gone for the moment. However, here is what Frogboy had to say about it:

I think most will prefer the revise due conomics which are derived from population. Factories and research centers magnify production but they don't generate it unto themselves anymore. Hence in such a system approval as a population control becomes really problematic IMO.

i think if approval returns it'll be to add a new dynamic (for instance, to expand on the political element of game play where trying to undermine each other's governments become a strategy). Hence, approval ratigs have too much future potential to be used up as a soft population growth counter.

Yes, that is my feeling about it, too - that morale or happiness would not be about population control.  Population control is better tied to a different set of of factors.

But approval and morale do have the potential to be useful in deepening the game experience in a wide array of areas.  (And for that matter, morale and approval should be two separate things.  A population might really love their leader but are could still be low in morale).   These things could impact production (low morale means lower work rates).  It could impact wealth accumulation (if in concept, wealth is generated by taxes, the lower the approval... the more people become tax evaders!)  Approval could be affected by all sorts of things like war, peace, or whatever.

Anyway, I do hope it will be added in some way to create a new layer of depth.  *crosses fingers*

Maybe force research on government techs at some point or face slight but growing chances of revolt, based on several variables, including cultural influence, governments and ethics of cultural influence, racial factors, world distance, and fear of outside attack (high military might with good relations= more likely to have revolts)

A moral/happiness system in some shape or form needs to happen. It doesn't need to be like in galciv2 where it restricts population growth but it certainly should have a large effect on the match itself.

Why wouldnt morale happines affect a plantes output?

If i look at my assignments the revenu of people is defently based on their satisfactions. If the compagny has much digrunt its not performing. If the employees are happy they work harder. Same go's for whole countries so why not planets?

This can (or should be) , to some extend, be countered by supression.

Moral and Approval are currently not in the Alpha, there effect on the game has always been a bit fuzzy, and we want to make sure that if we bring it back, it is allot more clear what it dose.

As mentioned above for the Alpha we mostly want war and growth, so hopefully Approval missing will not change the game to much.

Could it also add production bonuses like Nukar said? not a factor but just a bonus like; adding 1% for every approval point, along with the growth and war modifiers.

DARCA ;)
