Trolling on Steam

They're all being stupid and ignorant on the GC3 Community Hub.

We need to teach them the error of their ways.

We need attention grabbing pornography and slow motion FPS gun fights...or find a way to take the founder offer off steam, to stop the "beta flood" and the narcissists who will do this for the wrong reasons. Or I could be over reacting.

DARCA. ;)

Every game that I've been apart of the Early Access or Kickstarted that is going on to Steam, always has this for the first week or so. When Dead State hit Early Access, it was flooded with, "OMG $25 FOR A DEMO?! NOT THE FULL GAME?!" posts by trolls and people that couldn't grasp the concept of getting the full game when it is finished. I expect a week of just non-stop complains about the price, until people forget about it and move on or find the next game to complain about.

It's a troll heaven.I do wonder why so many developers do early access unless the desperately need the cash.

It's a lot easier to patch via Steam, from what some developers have said. You can patch and hotfix a problem and get it to the community a lot easier. It's also probably why more constructive posts are done on the forums for the developers instead.

My heart sinks seeing my mail icon at the top right with a green "100" on it.

I know exactly what's happening.

You are not going to change their minds, so arguing with them just makes bigger threads to merge--please stick to constructive discussions.

Indeed engaging with them is useless. In fact I recognize several of them. They come onto EVERY SINGLE THREAD concerning Early Access as an excuse to just scream and yell about it. Any game with Early Access they're there ready to tell everyone how 'wrong' they are. Any thread in the main Discussions about Early Access? Yep they'll be there too.

They're not actually interested in having a discussion. They just want to have a soapbox to scream about how Early Access is the scourge of society.

By that same token some 'defenders' of the kingdom aren't either (interested in discussion and/or even reading other's posts).  For example I just saw a thread via STEAM where someone posted an OP about why the cost in euros was so much higher than US dollars (even taking into account VAT etc.).  One of the responses he got from a GalCiv 'founder' was that he was an idiot for not understanding that it was an Alpha he was paying for.  In this case the GalCiv 'founder' completely missed the boat (so obviously lacked reading-comprehension) and likely only served to alienate people more.

Whenever a company takes steps to release to the public an Alpha/Beta/whatever work-in-progress it comes with risk.  Some of the risk is that a certain amount of the general populace will not (intentionally or not) understand what they are paying for or why.  Other risk comes from the fact that those can then influence others with their misinterpretations and incorrect assumptions.  Therefore any company engaging in such practices weighs the benefits of having early community feedback (in order to shape a final product to the liking and/or satisfaction of those willing participants) against the previously mentioned drawbacks.

Everything today gets 'trolled' (and yes I do mean everything).  Sad but true reality and not one changing anytime soon.  What can be done?  The company keeps creating and the community keeps providing feedback.  Certainly 'feeding' the trolls does nothing to effect change.

Steam forums tend to be gamefaqs-level for every game.   I won't say they're the worst forums I've ever posted on/read, but they're up there.

That said, I kinda understand why there is some misappropiated rage, what Stardock is doing is unusual, and I think a bunch of folks don't understand it.   I love it personally, as I think it should end up a good value (but I will expect at least $60 of post-release expansions+DLC).

I don't know if you'll get good feedback from all 1000 expected founders, I suspect many fall into my category where I'm not really capable of giving great feedback, and got this for the value proposition of post-release content.

Is it even worth arguing with the small minded un-educated. Kinda of like watching FOX news, only humorous for short while.

I enjoy trollin' the trolls. I see it as trainin' the neophytes to better themselves, the troll-game and everyone's enjoyment.
