Missing game?

I seem to be missing all the files for the game, steam downloaded 111mb, with a folder inside called _CommonRedist and inside that two more folders called DirectX and vcredist. Does not look like there is any game related material in them, but I could be missing something...

The Steam download should be around 1GB.  I'd remove all the content and try a fresh install. You can right-click in Steam and delete all content from there.

There's an option for checking the integrity which should download the rest. Not at my PC, so I can't check exactly what it's called.

I have done that several times. Each time, Steam tells me there is only 111mb to download and install, perhaps something wrong with Steam servers?

Are you sure you're trying to download GalCiv3 and not any of the previous games? :P

Try restarting steam

Try running Steam as an administrator

Ensue you have enough disk space

Ensure your anti-virus is not blocking the install somehow as this is a common problem.

Its to do with STEAM. 111mb is what its telling me before I install it.

Try changing your download region in Steam to something in Europe/NorthAmerica? It could be the content server you're connecting to is screwy.

Changed from London UK to Manchester UK and then USA New York. No change.

Its ok found the issue. Because of my lack of internet I had to borrow a family members laptop to download it on. Tried on another laptop this one being 64 bit and yeah, downloading.

Am I correct in assuming I will be able to transfer it onto my offline PC which has steam?

Oh THAT'S why

The game is 64-bit ONLY

Steam has a depot filtering mechanism. The depot for the game is 64-bit only. Because Steam detected your 32-bit OS, it only showed the 'redist' depot. Similar to how you can filter "Mac depots" or "Linux depots" as well depending on how the developer defines the depots.

Moving the game back to your other computer will not do anything. The exe is 64-bit only and will fail spectacularly even if you try to execute it.

This likely should be put into the sticky for troubleshooting. If you're downloading 'only 120MB' it means you're on a 32-bit OS.

Except my PC which is offline is 64 bit. I just needed to download it. Unfortunately Steam threw a curveball at me so I will have to manually edit steam files and merge folders from the Steam install on the 64 bit laptop.

You still need to be online to activate the product....

Which is why after the failed attempts to download on a 32 bit laptop, we tried it  on a 64 bit laptop and did the activation process.

Please do not assume I am stupid, just because I did not know Steam did that sort of thing. This is one of the only, if not the only, 64 bit game(s) out there right now. Its going to throw a few people off a bit, even someone like me who has played video games before they could walk (about 22 years)

If it was not for Vermin media, I would not have had ANY issues and would hapilly be playing the alpha.

the game does not run without steam. Even if you copy it over you still

1) have to run steam online so it can validate the game

2) run the Stardock activation routine online

you still have to bootstrap the game by being online on the desired computer

Not if you merge steam folders and files...

I have been fiddling with Windows for years.

Steam has validated it.

Steam is already on my PC.

I already ran the activation thing.

All I need to do is merge a few more files and add in a few more folders into Steam.
