Planetary invasion

Planetary invasion

I've never actually played a Galactic Civ game, so I'm basing this post purely on research off the GalCiv wiki.

So from what I learned from GalCiv2, planetary invasions are done first by eliminating any enemy ship in orbit (a ship occupying the planet's tile) and the moving a troop transport onto the planet. Depending on your soldiers (morale, tech, mini-soldiers) and a chosen tactic, the game rolls your odds against an enemy planet's soldiers (morale, tech) and planetary defenses. The victor of these rolls captures the planet.

I was wondering how planetary invasions would be portrayed/handled in GalCiv3.

Personally, I would appreciate diversity in ground forces, maybe 3 classes of ground units - infantry/armor/support (or artillery). Depending on how they're used in an invasion your odds go up? Perhaps even a little more depth to planetary invasions?

Yeah, I'm currently doing some trades on Steam to see if I can obtain GalCiv2.

In the meantime, I'm going to be active on this forum and look for any more news. Thanks for all your feedback!

Galactic Civilizations 2 isn't really that expensive, so if there is a way to do it, I'll give you the remainder of my wallet. A paltry sum (probably only a dollar or two lol), but every little bit helps right?

Oh, try to sell TF2 hats, they sell for a mint.

Unfortunately, I don't play TF2. I actually have never played TF2. ):

But I am trading for a 66% off coupon. That'll knock down $20 -> $6.67.

Lol. I love old people my dad is "old" I just don't like when people willing give up living and become complacent with being "old" when there is life to live, people to help, and things to do. from what little i know of Tridus he doesn't seem "old" like he said. Instead he's...ageing there's a difference . (my dad has been in one big childhood my hole life. )

Well, "old" can mean a few things. In response to Paragon's good natured ribbing about what I said to the potential founder earlier in the thread, "old" just means that I'm old enough to have been around a long time and not want to see someone spend $100 before they're sure they want in, when they can wait and be better informed soon. With age comes patience, after all. :)

But I also live by the personal rule that it's not how old you are, it's how immature you feel. Going by that, I spend most of my life being 20. ;)

I'm more impressed that anybody that is this hard core a fan of the space based 4X TBS genre to be on the forum for a game that is still at least a year away from shipping even knows that other game genres exist, let alone picks up on a decade old FPS reference haha! :D

And while we're on the subject, espionage missions should put you into a first person stealth mission like Thief.

This is simultaneously the best and worst idea I have ever heard for this game.

I read this to my wife (also in her 70s) and we both had a good laugh at it.

I may be dating myself quite a bit, but I remember a game called  Star Fleet II: Krellan Commander that allowed you to invade planets and partake in a simple invasion. the system was easy and it gave you the responsibility of actually controlling the whole invasion. (Ya I'm old 57 yrs)  B)  been doing this gaming thing longer than most of ya have been alive.

I have a suggestion after I saw the planet screen.

Why not have a simplified, fast paced Risk type game(unit replenishment for defenders, reinforcements for invaders if any) when you invade?

End of Replicators's quote

The old Star General game did this and it was fun.

If they don't want to make ship battles fancy enough that they become the focus of the game, I really don't think they're going to put a mini RTS in for planetary invasion.

End of Tridus's quote

I would much perfer if it was a mini or mighty TBS not RTS for planetary invasion (and space battles.) Watching the battle with out being able to control it gets boring real quick.  And yes I know that they are going to have the same TV watching space battles that GC2 had which was the only part of the game I did not like. I mean you spent all this time designing a really cool ship yet you can't control them for combat.
