Scout ships need waypoints!

So I was re-familiarizing myself with the universe by firing up a game of GalCiv2 and an awesome thought struck me: How cool would it be to have the option of using waypoints for your scouts? Auto-scouting was never terribly efficient in GalCiv2 and it's too time consuming to continuously check up on your scouts to make sure they're travelling where you want them too. It seems like a simple matter to add a shift-click scouting option like any scout in an RTS game. Can we have this implemented for GalCiv3?

That's a useful idea.

I brought this issue up in a earlier post some time ago. (Thread was something like: Galciv 2 features that should die)

I suggested these alternatives:

Scout Ships when set to scout would give the option of

1) Going to random locations in unexplored space, or just random locations is space was explored.

2) Going to random locations.

Also I suggested that Survey Ships would default to these if there were no anomalies in reach rather then just sitting there.

Anyway, someone from Star Dock said that it had been addressed but they didn't give any details.

What would be really nice to see would be the ability to set patrol routes. So you could send some ships to your borders and they would follow a path around your empire to detect enemy ships, rather than just sitting passively waiting for something to cross their paths. Alpha Centauri has a feature like that and it comes in very handy. I have yet to come across another 4X game that has this as well.

I agree fully.  Patrol routes that can be set on auto so the player can know that area is being 'watched' while focusing on other things.

+1 for the patrol routes

I do this manually in galciv2 with my Long range sensor ships, would like such an automation setting.

I realize this a long dead thread, but I was hoping if there were any plans on implementing the idea of an automated patrol route I brought up here long ago. It's something I would very much like to see in the game. I haven't been around for awhile and I was wondering if there was any thoughts towards including this feature since I last posted the request.
