Since this place has a lot of people mulling around, I might as well ask- does anyone here build battlecruisers ? Complete distortion of the topic I know, but I personally find them to be to weak (low HP, bonuses and all) and tend to lean heavily on battle hammers...


I never build battlecruisers at all. I lean more toward frigates for quick strike and hammers to back em up at that stage.

So I guess the proposed Whiskey ex machina empire is a bust then?

see, here's my q regarding that- frigates seem to be so damn expensive, and I take the approach of building swatchs of battle hammers instead- Its not the strongest offensive army, but its rock solid in defense and not as expensive. Do you still go out and buy frigates if you aren't attempting a extermination campaign ?

No. I only use them if I need em. Otherwise, I wait for capital ships.

Frigates have range. They are good for planet pounding early.

frigates are more expensive to maintain but faster with larger range and 40% less in construction cost.

if I want a cheap ship that combines the role of the corvette and the frigate (assaults trade routes, attacks colony/constructors, has chance of taking out battlehammers, etc.) it's the battle cruiser.

note: the frigate is replaced with pheonix after I research cloaking (same speed, same range, better sensors, and a nice attack score, takes damage fast, but really good at dishing it out)



I use them (corvettes, frigates, phoenix) all the time.
They are great at infiltrating enemy territory and harrassing them in unprotected areas.

Against the current AI, it doesn't make too much of a difference, but strategically it far more sound than just building capital ships.

Unfortunately the AI doesn't have a grasp of strategy.

I mean really. You cannot claim wholesomeness in one breath and then claim we don't care about allignment in the next. If you don't care about those who do evil, and you let evil players like plephart run amok in your empire, you are not a good wholesome empire. End of story. We on the other hand, make no bones about it. We allow the evil allignent, and we therefore we are evil. That is true regardless of how many good games we submit or good alligned people we may have.
There isn't any "Well we're good but we can be evil at times" with us. We pirates don't care about allignment. Most of us tend toward the evil side, but hey, sometimes you gotta kill a few non-sentient worms. Don't your people deserve the best planets they can get? If sometimes you don't merely to placate a stronger goody goody alien race for awhile prior to takeover, well that's all good too. The only true empire between us two that doesn't care about allignment, nor tries to justify themselves merely by being from a certain place is G.R.O.S.S. So don't buy the MWC's pathetic lines.


Oh and we are always open to a merger. Ending a war with a loss is a disgrace. Ending one with a merger is no disgrace. You'll find being one of us is far better than your future under a taskmaster like Lord Vader.

Assimilations do not count in war tallys.

We at G.R.O.S.S. would like to see the whiskey flowing. Pirates and smugglers are quite good for whiskey rebellions. Why not join us?

the prior count associated with those assimilated.

BTW BCs are good for early wars, they are cheaper than BHs and well, they're cheaper. It's like the low-budget BH.

Translation: Still getting owned, not only by GROSS, but this time really being overrun by others as well. And recruiting just one member at a time won't change the situation fast enough, so just take a promising young empire and try to erase its identity entirely. Problem is even that is a short term fix. The MWC is not being done in by lack of numbers, and not by lack of scores, but by lack of sheer will.

Yes we are falling in the ratings lately, but need I remind you of our rise from 7th to 1st not so long ago. We will rise again, the question I have posed to the Republic is, do they want to be a part of that rise. I am sure, given time, the Republic would too rise on their own to be a major power in the metaverse but I am offerring a much quicker and more satisfying solution. I think its clear to the leadership of the Republic that GROSS is scared of the implications of this proposed merger, why else would they be flooding this thread with mockery and their own weak attempt at the same idea. Their slander of both of our proud empires must not go unpunished. However, should you not wish to undergo the merger, we still would like to propose an alliance against GROSS and hope that good relations can be established between our two hard working empires.
