No private research please

I was playing a little of Distant worlds, and one thing I didn't like was that I couldn't decide on what techs to research. One of the biggest reasons I play 4x games is tech research. I thought the private sector was a nice theory until I seen it. If Galactic civilizations does have the private sector then I hope it doesn't have private research, or the private and the public sectors share research.

Another question is does a living breathing galaxy means automation. Cause if it does then my question is what is the point in having a 4x game if we don't play it.

The rest of the private sector looks fine, but automating a game is not an improvement. The beauty of Galactic civilizations is playing it.

I like some of the ideas of upgrading some of the tech research as long as I can pick at least some of the techs to research.

I'm pretty sure you don't have anything to worry about. It will likely be more a less just like how GC2 handled research just with an improved tech tree.

Whaat?? You were playing the most recent add-on as a pirate? Because otherwise you most definitely can and should decide.

Michael, in Distant Worlds you can (and most certainly should) put research on manual.  You can choose whatever technology path you want.  You can choose how to distribute your research effort amongst the three fields.  You have the choice to automate or not in many others areas as well.

With Automation, keep in mind Distant Worlds allows much larger galaxies that GalCiv 2.  With GalCiv 3 we should also have very large galaxies.  While I like to play Distant Worlds manually, some do not, and like to have the choice available.  There is a lot more to a living breathing galaxy in Distant Worlds that just the private economy.

Yeah, Michael, you probably just had it set to auto.  Almost every aspect of DW can be set to full auto to full manual and several steps in between.
